Means is provided for adjusting the slide according to the different settings of the trimming knives, an adjusting screw 16 being shown in the present instance which is journaled in a bearin 17 formed on the slide and has threads which coiiperate with an abutment A milled head or wheel 19 is provided on the screw for operating it and a pointer 20 may be provided to co'riperate with a graduated scale 21 on the milled head or wheel. Means is, also provided for locking'or retaining the slide in different adjusted positions, one of the gibs (the gib 15 in the present instance) being provided with a clamp 22 embodying a screw 23 and a nut 24, the latter having an operating handle 25 which may be manipulated readily to clamp and release the slide. The knife 9 in the construction shown is attached to this slide 11 and it may be, fixed on the slide while the knife 10 is supported or carried by the slide and is provided with means for adjusting its relation to the slide. Such adjusting means may be of different kinds, that shown in the present instance being fully disclosed and claimed in the pending application of William E. I claim as my invention 1. The combination of a mold for casting linotype slugs, trimming mechanism for shaving the sides of the slugs, and means for bodily setting in diflerent predetermined positions the entire trimming mechanism transversely to the mold-cavity to conform to varying positions of the mold.
