JAMES BOLTON, OF BRUSH, COLORADO.
ROAD-DRAG.
Application filed June 27, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, James BoL'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brush, in the county of Morgan and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Road-Drags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inventicn. such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in road drags and comprises a simple and eflicient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
1 illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my road drag, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the frame of the scraper mounted upon the axles B and C upon which the wheels D are journaled.
A scraper, designated by letter H, is suspended from a movable cross beam J upon the frame through the medium of the chains Q fastened at their lower ends to the eyes formed in the upper ends of the plates 0 which are secured to the rear face of the scraper, the latter being mounted so as to have an adjustable movement. the beam J carrying the scraper being guided in its clifferent adjusted movements by the straps J which are fastened to the upper faces of the beams of the frame. The bars F have their rear ends angled and are adapted to engage the socket plates F upon the rear face of the scraper and their forward ends are held by means of the bolts F in one or another of the holes E which are formed in the yokes E, the latter having their upper ends angled and engaging over the angle beams of the frame and held thereon by means of the bolts E A central bar H is fastened to the socket members F upon the scraper and its for- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 847.746.
ward end is booked and is connected to a link of the chain E which in turnis fastened to the plate A secured at its forward end to the frame of the apparatus.
Mounted in suitable bearings upon the frame of the scraper is a shaft K having grooved wheels L upon the ends thereof, about which the chains N are adapted to wind, said chains being secured at their lower ends to eyes formed .in the plates L fastened t the rear of the scraper.
A rod R depends from a cross-piece I, and S designate chains which are fastened at their inner ends to the rod R and their outer ends are fastened to the rear of the scraper and serve to limit the tilting movements of the scraper.
A suitable handle M is fixed to the shaft K and serves as a convenient means wherebv the operator may, through the medium of the lever, cause the shaft H to rock and the scraper to be raised and lowered.
In order to regulate the pressure upon the scraper, I provide the tilting levers P, having foot treads P at their ends. convenient to the seat A said levers being fulcrumed between the lugs P upon the upper edge of the scraper and the forward end of each lever P is provided with an eye P adapted to receive a rod T which is held in a socket member V held by the clamping member W to the frame, and a spring X is interposed between the eye T and the lower edge of said socket V and affords means whereby, when the operator depresses down upon the free end of the levers, the levers will fulcrum over the scraper and the springs yield. thus forcing the scraper down with the desired pressure upon the ground.
By the provision of a scraper made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that a simple and eflicient means is afforded whereby the angle at which it is desired to have the scraper disposed may be conveniently regulated and also the pressure upon the scraper regulated by the operator merely pressing down upon the levers.
"What I claim to be new is:
1. A road scraper comprising a frame, a scraper adjustably mounted thereon, levers fulcrumed over the edge of the scraper, springs against which the corresponding ends of the levers bear and forming means for regulating the pressure upon the scraper.
2. A road scraper comprising a frame, an In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my adjustablg scraper mounted thegeon, %evers signature in presence of two Witnesses. ulcrume over the u er e e o the scraper, a rod secured to t he fran e, the for- JAMES BOLTON 5 Ward ends of the levers having eyes through Witnesses: which said rods pass, and springs inter- JOHN BOLINGER, posed between the rods and the frame.
