The inner ends of the supports 5.1 extend close to the lower ends of the rods 58 and normally lie in the same horizontal plane so that they lie in two parallel rows. In order to dislodge one of the record disks, it is only necessary to produce an upward movement either on one of the rods 58 and the inner end of its connected support 50 or on the inner end of one of the supports 51 dependent upon the location of the record.
In order to select any one of a plurality of records which may be assumed to be located in the upper compartment, it is only necessary to produce'a transverse movement of a. carriage 61 by turning an adjusting i of the flexible hand wheel 60, until a lift pin 70 is directly under the rod 58 connected to the support which is in the desired record space and to then actuate a push rod 63. If the desired. record is in the lower compartment, the carriage is correspondingly adjusted until the lift pin is directly under the inner end of the support 51 which is in the desired record space, the push rod 63 being then actuated as before. The car riage is first'moved forward by a lever 90 until the lift pin is under the inner ends of the supports 51 instead of under the rods 58.
The structural details embodied in the carriage and actuating mechanism illustrated are not essential to my invention and may be varied without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
The carriage illustrated comprises a block (see Fig. 41) which is arranged to slide on a bridge comprising a pair of transverse guide rods 66 the ends of which are connected by cross pieces 67 and end brackets 67. These brackets are arranged to slide in guideways 68 which-are mounted on the side walls of the cabinet near .its lower back corners. The block of the carriage has a projection 69 extending laterally from it and vertically perforated to receive a weighted selector or lift pin 70. The lift pin is in the form'of a rod extends through the perforated,projection 69 and has an enlargement 71 which increases its weight and limits its downward movement. To each end of the carriage is secured a flexible cord 73 which extends over pulleys 74 near the respective ends of the guide rods and thence upward over the sprocket wheel or pulley 7 5 on a sleeve 76 which is rotatably mounted on a spindle projecting from the back 28 of the compartment 18. If asprocket wheel as shown in Fig is employed, a section cord 73 is preferably coinposed of a sprocket chain. Subslautially parallel with the sleeve 76 is a hollow sha lit 77 which at its inner end 18 geared to the sleeve 76 and on the outer end of which is the adjusting hand wheel 00. A lun'cl gear 78 secured to this shaft, uiternrerhate its ends and meshes with a bevel. gear 7 1 which is aliixed to and may form a part of an iul 77, the sprocket wheel 75, and the di so are all rotated. The disk isthus related and the adjustment is continued until a predetermined number appears through the slot 81 in which position it may be held by a I1011-130SltlV6 lock 62. At the same time the rotation of the sprocket wheel adjusts the carriage 61 until the lift pin is directly under rod 58 connected to the support 50 which is in a record space corresponding to the number visible through the slot 81. The push rod 63 extends through the hollow shaft 77 andv is connected at its inner end to a lever 82, which is allixed to a shaft 83 intermediate its ends. This shaft extends transversely of the cabinet and a pair of levers 84 are secured to. it near its ends. A pair of levers85 are pivotall cured at opposite points 86 on the side walls of the cabinet and are connected to the levers 84 by links 87. A transverse actu ating bar 88 extends between the levers 85 and is directly under the lift pin 70 irrespective of the position to which it is adjusted. Consequently if the push rod (33 is actuated the levers 85 and the cross bar will be raised and will actuate the lift pin 70. This action will be transmitted. to the rod 58 which is directly above and in re sponse to this action the support 50 will be tilted thereby allowing the disk record which rests upon it to run out by gravity.
A bell crank lever 90 is pivotally mounted on thetop IG-of the cabinet and is adapted to occupy two positions designated upper and lower (see Fi 3). One arm of the lever has a handle 91 while the other arm is adapted to cover a portion of the slot 81 and has on it a letter A which registors with slot 81 when the lever occupies its upper position and a letter B'which registers with the slot when the lever is in its lowci position. The bell crank lever is connected by a lever, a link and a lever 93 to a transverse shaft 95. which has a pair of levers 96 secured to it near its ends. From these levers depend a pair of links 97 which are connected at their lower ends with bell crank levers 98 pivoted at opposite points 99 on the side walls of the cabinet and connected by links 100 to the rewhinet trim:

li artment, vertically disposed parallel stationary spacers therein subdiyiding said compartment into a plurality of spaces for receiving disk records, tilting supports between said spacers, a transverse rod running through said'supports forward. of the center of gravity of the records thereon whereby the weight of said records hold said supports in a position with their upper surfaces downwardly inclined toward the rear of the compartment, manual means for moving a desired support to thereby raise the record thereon and to cause the supporting surface thereof to be inclined downwardly toward the front of the compartment to allow the record thereon to roll out of said compartment, and a transverse rod pi otally supported to be positioned in front of the records to hold them in the compartment or away from the records to arrest their move ment as they roll out of the compartment.

A filing cabinet comprising a plurality of compartments, each subdivided into a plurality of record spaces, a plurality of means for dislodging the records, a single actuatorfor all of said means, an interposed selector between the actuator and one of said means, means for adjusting the selector to select a. desired compartment, an indicator connected therewith, other means for ad justing the selector to a desired record space, an index connected with said other means, and manual means for actuating the selector to discharge a desired record.
