ELECTRIC SWITCH MECHANISM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2,1915.
1 '0 all whom it may concem:
Be it known that 1, JOHN F. GROHOWSKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fortyfort, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Electric Switch Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvescribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings is illustrated an enlarged detail view of the switch point and casing with one of the solenoids shown in section, the switch point being in normal or central position.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the base plate having the two upstanding flanges 2 and 2' which constitute the casing for the switch point 3. The base 1 is provided with a transverse slot 4 through which projects and slides the pin 5 which is connected to the switch point in termediate of its ends and is also connected to the cylindrical rod 6 which constitutes the two cores for the oppositely disposed solenoids 9 and 10 respectively, a casing or tube 7 surrounding the rod 6 below the switch point casing 1.
The outer end of each of the respective solenoids 9 and 10 is sealed I the cep 11 and in each of the respective caps are tted centering boss 15 seated within the disks 12 and 14 of insulation, the disk 12 being provided with the tubular sleeve 13 projecting into the bore of its respective solenoid while the disk 14 is provided with the its respective cap 11. disks 12 and 14 of insulation, is a metal disk 16, carrying the sleeve 17 in which is mounted the stud l8 normally held in the position as shown by means of the spring 19, said stud 18 being metal and constituting amovable member of a circuit controlling switch, the opposed end being the other member of the swltch.
With this construction, it is evident that as viewed in the drawing, the metal stud .18] .of the solenoid 10 will be engaged and the switch formed by these members closed.
What is claimed is:
A switch actuator, comprising two cylin drical casings, a tube connecting the two. two solenoids, one disposed in each casing, a rod slidably mounted in the tube and forming the cores for both solenoids, two disks of insulation disposed in the outer end of each casing, a metal disk having a concentrically disposed metal sleeve, such metal disk being incased by the two disks of insulation with the sleeve within and insulated from the core of the solenoid, the rim of the end of the sleeve being inturned, a 'stud slidably mounted within the sleeve with one end for projection beyond the tube in the path of its respective end of the rod, and a spring within the sleeve for holding the stud'projected, said metal disk, stud and the rod JOHN F. GROHOWSKY,
