To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY Fonus'r'sa, c tizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of lllinois, have invented certain neiv and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description" of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in sash locks and has for-its object to provide a sash lock which will answer a pluralityof purposes, namely. to lock sashes against relative opening movement, to limit the relative opening movement of said sashes, and to draw the'meeting rails of the sashes toward each other during the locking operation;

The particular objects are, first, to provide .a sash lock which, besides affording [an 'efiicient lock to prevent relative opening movement of the sashes will, during the operation thereof, lock said sashes and vdraw the meeting rails thereof" together to form an air tight ijoint. A further object of the invention is to provide a sash lock equipped with a suitable means relative opening movement sashes will automatically lock said sashes against reopening without first manipulating the lock.

The flange 12 of the bolt -or plunger 5 projects farthest outwardly from the latter in a direction diametrically opposite to the direction of projection of the thumb piece 9 so that. as the latter is turned while in engagement with the cam .face 10 of the flange'll the said flange 12' will pass up wardly intothe recess 21 and into engagement with the lip 22, and as the rotary movement of the bolt or plunger is continued during engagement of said thumb piece 9 with'the cam surface 10 the bolt or plunger will be drawninwardly. against the action of the spring 8 'and will draw the said member 14 in the same direction, thus obviously causing the rails 2 and 13 to move toward each other. 5 normally projects beyond the meeting face of the rail 2 and into the path of the upper rail of the upper sash (not shown) but may is so disposed as to cause said arm to ing the same farther outwardly in the same direction and then turning the same back to the position shown in Fig. 2, the said flange 12 will engage in the recess 24' between the lip 23 and the inner end wall of the housing 1 and. will engage said lip to prevent return of the bolt or plunger 5 to the position shown in Figs."2, -3- and 4 Mounted upon the lower rail 13 of the upper sash laterally of the member 14 is p a bearing member 25 having parallel "erti cal flanges 26 between which an arm 27 is pivotally mounted, said arm being provided with a small longitudinal slot 28' through which the pin 29 mounted in said flanges 26 passes. Said arm 27 may be of anydesire'd length and is provided with a longitud nal slot 30 extending almost the entire length thereof, and through which the bolt or 0 passes. The said slot 30 in said arm is laterally enplunger larged as at 31, adjacent to its pivotal connection with the member 2-5 to permit the passage of the flange 12 therethrough so that said bolt or plunger 5 may be drawn into and out of engagement with said arm at will when the sash rails 2 and 13 are in opposed position as shown in Fig. -2. If, it'is desired to open the window wide or to a greater extent than permitted by the arm 27, the bolt or plunger is first turned to the position shown in Fi 4-, and drawn outwardly until the ange 12 has passed the lip 22, after which it may be freely drawn farther outwardly in the same;
direction until said flange 12 has passed through the enlarged portion 31 of the slot 30 in said arm 27 and until the flange 12 strikes the inner end wall of the housing 1, whereupon it is shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, leaving the said flange 12 in outward' engagementwith the lip 23.
