DRUM FOR MACHINES FOR STRETCHING HIDES AND SKINS.
nieces-'2.
original application filed September 11, 1913, Serial No. 789,222. Divided and Serial No. 836,417.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL Mnncmn, citizen of the Republic of France, residing at 3 Rue Basse Ste. Claire, Annonay, An deche, in the Republic of France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Machines for Stretching Hides of which the following is a speciof the hide.
The present application is a division of my co-pending application for patent, Serial Number 789,222, filed September 11th, 1913.
In the annexed drawing given by way of example: Figure 1 is a View, partly in section, of the improved drum for treating the edges of the hide. Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are enlarged details of the blades mounted on said drum, Figs. 3 and 4 being cross sections along the lines A-A and BB, respectively, of Fig. 2.
The stretching drum 1 the hide is of a generally and keyed concentrically on its shaft 2* which is rotated by any suitable means. The blades 11 secured on its periphery are arranged radially. Their edge has a slight convexity from one end to the other and is provided with rounded notches 12 spaced by solid parts 13. The edges of the blades have a rectangular cross section in the parts 13 as shown in Fig. 3, section in the notches rounded parts progressively into the rectangular parts so as to form no for the edges of cylindrical shape 12 (Fig. 4:). and a rounded cross of the blade edges merge 7 abrupt points or corners by Patented J an. 26, 1915. this application filed May which the hide treated might be damaged. The blades are preferably so arranged that the notches 12 in one blade are in alinement with the solid parts 13 of the next succeed- The hide to be dressed is held on the periphery of the drum by means of a brush, a leather band, or the like. The drum so constructed permits of finishing the dressing of the hide in a very efiicient manner, by drawing and softening the edges in all directions while exerting a slight scraping effect.
Having now described my what I claim as new and desire to Letters Patent is:
1. In a machine for stretching hides and skins, the combination of a shaft, a stretching drum carried on said shaft, blades secured radially on the periphery of said drum, said blades being provided with notches the edge of each blade being rounded in the notches and square in the spaces between the notches, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a machine for stretching hides and skins the combination of a shaft, a stretching drum, carried on said shaft; blades secured radially on the periphery of said drum, said blades having a curved edge from end to end and being provided with notches, the edge of each blade being rounded in the notches and square in the invention, secure by spaces between the notches, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DANIEL MEROIER.
