Description

wiwi" am ta.
g To all fwhom. 'it may concern."
Beit-knovn 4 that I,` THMAS J. 'Wasn of Alfred Centre, in the countyI off-Allegany and State ofi INew York, have `invented a new andimproved Plaster` blower; and Ldo hereby declare that the following is `a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will `enable, others skilled in the art to make' and use the same, reference'being-had to the accompanyipg drawing formingpart of this specitication.

a .Dv represents the agitatprsfwhich consist of thin plates of sheet metal oiT-ti'iang'ular forni, or nearly so, split from the base nearly to the apex in the major ,axis, as` indicated Aby the lines E, iig. 2, and ,bent at the junction ltgtoanangle equal, or thereabout, `to the angle of the two sides of thehopper; andthese parts G are bent `hack again at H toward the said i'najor axis, in the plane ot' which isthe whichthe` ends `K arcattached ior supporting the `partsG and the point-s L in the relation 4to the hopper andthe throathere showintbr soagitating the plasternearthe surfaces ofthe sides A as to prevent it from cloggingthereon, as itdoes when theagitators `are arranged iii'lthe plane of the liney y, as heretofore, inwhieh case the plaster will only be dis'- l charged from `a small `pai-twat Ythe center, while the greaterportion of the contents ot' the hopper will lso practicaloperationofsnch machines. `Et'he 'Schedule referred to In `these Letters Patent and part of the same.
l Y l `This invention relates to improvements 1n plastery Figure 2 is a section taken on the line y y of lig. 1.l
Wper, having along-narrow throat, B, at the bottom,
.be sowed, said hopper being mounted on wheels 0,' of" `working-barel, (tolbe workedl inthe ordinary \\'ay,) to
` pack upon the sides as to remain, asl have found hy jj'rnoMAssrJQwasn! or` ALFRED'` CENTRE, NEW YORK.
` to widen ornarrowthe throat, has a lever' attached to it for actuating it, and this lever is depended upon to hold the said side in Lthe position required, a notched bar being attached to the frame at any suitable' point for the lever to engage with. v
l have `found this arrangement tobe defective on account of thetwo sides of the hopper springing away ti'oin each other between the ends by the great weight otr the plaster when full, andI gradually apf proaching. eachother as the load diminishes, .so that formly. i l
I therefore propose to Vplace two or more of the 'iron -bars ""N on each side, between the ends, with their lower ends'projecting vertically below the bottornof the hopper,- and employ the rightandleft screw-threadedrods VO in, connection with them, as shown, for adjusting and supporting the said sides, by
vthe other will be connteraoted by that ot' the other, andV the adjustment will be eiected by turning vthe screw-threaded rods. l
For preventing the tops of the grass or'grain from coming in contact with the lower part of the hopper, and thereby; wetting it by the water contained in the grass or grain being discharged upon the hopper. which would cause the plaster to clog at the throat, I employ a guard, consisting of a `long broad board or plate, P, arranged at the rear of the throat, with one edge, Q, projecting considerably below the sides of `the box,- to come in contact with the grass and bend,` it forward, so that the4 tops of that with which the edge of the guard is in contact, being forced-upon that under the front of the hopper, will bend it down sothat the front of the hopper will go clear 'above it.
ThisA plan is adopted'in preference-to'placing the case the ends of .t-,he grass escaping from underV the side of thehopper.l a
This guard may be attached to the hopper in any agitators of pieces ot' sheet metal, splitand bent as described, for it isfobvious that they may be made in ing or forging them.
Having thus described my invention,
the machines so lconstructed do not discharge uniwhich the tendency of each side 'to spring away frorn guard on the front side of the hopper, because-in that l guard would spring up against the edge of thei rear preferred way, crit 4may be attached to the frame of d the required form, or approximating thereto, by cast- I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pathopper, to prevent its bottom from being wetted by entthe dampgrass.
