Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL KAMINsKI, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at Spandau, near Berlin, Germanyfhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Signaling Systems, Particularly for Artillery Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to signaling systems particularly adapted for artillery purposes.
A primary object of my invention is to solve the problem of causing two coacting transmitters to move through different distances when the one is driven by the other. T 0 this end I provide between the two transmitters an intermediate gear which cooperates with the devices in such manner that the driven transmitter is moved at a speed different from the transmitter driving the former. I prefer to arrange the intermediate gear in a manner known in itself so that it engages'only in certain positions with the transmitter system which is to be driven, but otherwise enables the same to move perfeetly independently. Finally I make both transmitters as well as the intermediate gear rotatable clockwise and counter-clockwise.
An embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, which show two successively coiiperating transmitters. The receivers having no bearing on the present invention, have been omitted in the drawings.
In said drawings,-'Figure l is an elevation of the apparatus; Fig. Q'is a plan view thereof, the cover being removed and only the mechanical features of the device being shown, with one disk partly broken away.
The electrical features of the device do not form a part of the present invention. Any
this portion of the apparatus has been omit ted. On the shafts la and 7c, of the two armatures are mounted signal disks 6, 6, respectively, which are of equal size and which bear on their upper faces either signals or signal characters, according to the purpose for which the device is intended. These characters may be observed through suitable windows (not shown) provided in the face plate 6 of the casing which contains the entire apparatus. The signal disk 6 may be for instance provided with figures and as an example with 21 fields, each representing one figure. Disk b, may be only provided with 11 fields, each having one numeral from one to eleven. Accordingly, when the disk I) is in a definite position and the disk Y b, is to be rotated one division by the former disk moving from one division to the next, it is necessary to rotate the disk I), a greater distance than corresponds to one division of the disk I). To this end, according to my invention I arrange between the two transmitter systems an intermediate gear 0 which on the one hand can coact with the tappet 03 fast on the axle 7c of the one transmitter sys-' the consequent different length of path to be traversed when the two systems'are rotated together in order to cause the next signal to appear in the window. By this arrangement, the following result is obtained: If at the completion of one revolution of disk cl, the latter is moved into the position in which the last of its fields appears before the window, also disk d, is moved one entire field or division, though the divisions of disk (Z are larger than those of disk d.
In order to increase the certainty of action and to bring the intermediate gear after each motion into a position, as shown in the drawing, in which the second transmitter system is able to move freely, I arrange on the shafts of the transmitters and of the in termediate gear notched Wheels g, g 9 into the notches of which the ends of spring pressed arms k, h k respectivel fall.

I claim 1. In a signaling system, the combination with two transmitters, one of the same having a toothed gear, of an intermediate toothed gear meshing with, and having a number of teeth different from the number of teeth of the former toothed gear, means driven by the other transmitter for intermittently driving the said intermediate gear, both transmitters and said intermediate gear being rotatable either clockwise or counterclockwise, said first named transmitter with its gear wheel being rotatable independently of said intermediate gear wheel in predetermined positions of said intermediate wheel;

In a signaling system, the combination with a transmitter comprising a shaft carrying a toothed gear, of a second transmitter comprising a shaft carrying a tappet, and an intermediate toothed gear adapted to mesh with the former toothed gear,"having a number of teeth difierent from the number of teeth of the former toothed gear, and adapted to be driven intermittently by the said tappet,,both transmitters and said intermediate gear being rotatable either clockwise or counterclockwise, said first named transmitter with its gear wheel being rotatable independently of said intermediate gear wheel in predetermined positions of said intermediate Wheel.

In a signaling system, the combination with a transmitter comprising a shaft carryt me 13 ing a toothed gear, of a second transmitter comprising a shaft carrying a tappet, an intermediate toothed gear adapted to mesh with the former toothed gear, having a number of teeth diiferent from the number of teeth of the former toothed gear and adapted to be driven intermittently by said ta ppet, and means for positively setting said toothed gears and the said tappet in predetermined positions, both transmitters and said intermediate gear being rotatable either clockwise or counterclockwise, said first named transmitter with its gear wheel being rotatable independently of said intermediate gear wheel in predetermined positions of said intermediate wheel.
4. In a signaling system, the combination with two transmitters, one of the same having a toothed gear, of an intermediate toothed gear meshing with, and having a number of teeth different from the number of teeth of the former toothed gear, means PAUL KAMINSKI.
