Description
PATENT Enron.
DANIEL MOSELY, OFOSARK, ARKANSAS.
. o IMPROVEMENT IN COTTN-CHOPPERS AND GRAIN-CULTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 112,481, dated March 7, 1871.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL MosELY, of
Osark, in the county of Franklin and State of letters and iigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure lof the drawings represents a plan view of my cultivator. Fig. 2 representsa central vertical longitudinal section of the same.
rIhe nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a cotton-cul tivator, as will behereinafter more fully set forth.
. In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my inventiony appertains to make and use the same, IWillnow proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings. l
A A represent nine chopper-blocks, provided at their front ends each with an arm, B. These blocks are arranged in three sets of three each,as shown in Fig. l, and secured to the under side of a beam, C, while the front ends of the arms B B are secured on the'upper side of another `beam,D.` The beams C and D have a number of holes, for the screws to pass that fasten the chopper-blocks and their arms, so that said blocks and sets of blocks may be arranged at any desired distance apart.
On the under sides of the blocks A A are secured L-shaped` scoops a a, and on the outer side of the blocks forming the side blocks of each set is secured a blade, b, curved as shown in Fig. 2.
On the rear end of the middle block or ioater77 is attached a plow, d.
On top of the arms B B are laid two braces, E E, extending from the ends of the beam C to above the center of the beam D, for the purpose of giving greater strength to the machine. These braces are movable, so as to be adjusted as circumstances may require.
At suitable points on the rear side of the beam C are attached two standards, H H, braced by braces I I, to which standards the handles GG are pivoted, the front ends of said handles being attached to upright bars J J, secured on the front side of the beam D. The lower ends of the bars J J are secured to the runner K, the rear end of which is secured to the center chopper-block of the center set.
Near the front end of the runner K are two smaller standards, L L, between which the tongue M is pivoted, its rear end being secured, immediately in front of the rear end of the runner, to the same block or its arm. The tongue M is adjustable between the standards L L, and the bars J J are also adjustable up and down on the beam D, so that the machine may be made to run deep or shallow, as may` be desired. Y
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, ism
I. The arrangement with each set of three chopper-blocks A A of the scoops a a, blades b b, and plow d, substantially as shown and de
