Description
QAMos L.Y REE-PORTS; ANDv WILLIAM YoUNT, or LrrfrLnsroWN, PENNSYL- i ,y i venia.
To all whom it may concern; i
Be tknoivn thatfwe, AMosL. KEnPontrsand WILLIAM YOUNT, of Iiittlestown, in the county of ,Adamsand in the State ot'Pennsylvania, havev invented certain new and` useful Improvements in Olothes-Pins r `Olasps and do hereby declarethat-the following s a full, clear, and exact description'thereof, refer nce being had to the accompanying drawing makingY n part` of this specilcatiou, in whichi Figure l is a perspectivevie-w lof our improved device;
f Figure 2` is alike view of a similar pin, provided lfwith a lockingattachment; and f n f i `Figure 3 is cross-section ofthe` saine ontheline `Letters of like nameaud kind refer to like parts in each ofthe figures. p
Our invention has for its object the production of an efficient, durable, and cheap spring clasp or pin for attaching clothes to ori upon a line, for securing `teilti e fabrics together, or for attaching various articles to said fabrics; and n n i n It consists inthe peculiar` form and construction of `the device, substantially as and for the purposehereinafter specified. i
able wire, and near its longitudinal center coil it around one or more times, so as to produce at that point the spiral spring B, from whence that portion of the wire intended for the frame extends forward for ,about one inch, is, coiled once around C in a plane ata right angle to said spring, passes forward `for about one-half inch', and is` then turned downward for one inch in a curve, 1)of `'which said `spring is the center; from rence passes` again outward for one-half inch, is curved once around E in a plane corresponding. to lthe coil C, and from thence ext-ends in a curve outward, jg forward, and inward, with its end resting against the onter portion ot' said coil `E at 4a right angle to its plane i n 4 r 1 The oppositearm of thewireis provided with a i; coil, ll", corresponding`in posi-tion to the coil C, and jfrom" thence extending fin-ward is bent loosely (b) Paronndthe curved portion D, and from thence extends i in a curve, G, upward, forward, andthen downward,
In constructing our plus A we take a piece of suitlocking-coil I, substantially as and `IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-PINS .OR CLASPS.
`The Schedulei referred tol'n these lLetters Patent and making parl: o the same and terminates with `its sharpened end H resting as to withdrawthe pin H from its guard E, and per- .mit of the ,insertion of fabrics between saidpn and guard, after which, by removing the -inward pressure from the arms, the action of the spring B will spread them apartnntil said pin is caused to penetrate said fabric, and-its point enters the guard with its arms resting against the lower end of said curved portion, in which position the device is lirmly held to or upon` the article to which it is attached.
In order that accidental displacement of the pin may be prevented, it is only necessary that the i-ame at the lower end of the curved portion D should be extended outward and back, so as to form at one side an open coil, I, that willreceive and contain the encircling portion b ofthe pin-arm, and prevent the lat- `ter from moving upward upon said curved part D,
until, by a lateral movement, it has been released from said locking-coil;
A slight bend in the frame or pin-arm will canse'A the latter' to press into and remain within the lockingcoil unless intentionallyv released therefrom.
- The device thus described is capable of'. use in any place where it is required to attach textile fabrics together, or to other articles, Vand from its construction can be furnished small cost. A
' Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits at a comparatively of our invention,
lWhat we claim as new is l l As a new article of manufacture, the pin or -clasp A, constructed. as described, and provided with the for the purpose specified. v
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 4th day of February, 1871.
