JAMES R. MABES, OF ALLUWE, OKLAHOMA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO R.. R. LEE, 0F ALLU'WE, OKLAHOMA.
ANVIL ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 5, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES It. MABEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alluwe, in the county of Nowata and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Anvil Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved attachment for use in connection with an anvil for cutting bars and other work, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which may be adjusted according to the height of the anvil and which when not in use may be folded so as to be entirely out of the way and present no obstructions on the anvil.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :#-Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section of an attachment constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same in connection with an anvil and arranged for use thereon. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the attachment folded. Fig. 3 is a perspective detail view showing the tool 11 detached.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a foot 1 which is adapted to be screwed or bolted on the block on which an anvil is secured and to be arranged at one side of the anvil and near the same. This foot is provided with an upwardly extending standard 2. I also provide an adjusting arm 3 which comprises a lower member l and an upper member 5 which are pivotally connected together as at 6, the pivot bolt 7 which secures the said members together being arranged to one side and the said members being provided with opposing shoulders 8 on one side of said pivot thereby adapting the shoulders to hold the upper member in vertical position, in line with the lower member, the said pivot joint also adapting the upper member to be folded to one side of the lower member. The lower member of the arm has a vertical bore in which the standard 2 is telescopically arranged so that the said jointed arm may be adjusted vertically on the standard according to the height of the anvil. The lower member of the jointed arm has a set screw 9 to secure said arm in adjusted position. The upper member of the jointed arm has an outturned upper end 10 to which is attached a tool 1l which is here shown as a blade having a straight edge l2 and a curved edge 13 and having also a broadened base 14 to bear on the upper side of the anvil when the upper member of the jointed arm is in vertical adjusted position. This tool may be used for cutting bars or other work and may -be of any suitable construction within the scope of my invention, according to the kind of work to be done thereby.
My improved attachment may be used on any anvil and enables the tool to be folded out of the way so as to leave the anvil entirely unobstructed when it is not desired to use the tool.
Having thus described my invention, I claim The herein described anvil attachment comprising a base having a standard, a jointed arm comprising an upper member and a lower member pivotally connected together and provided with opposing shoulders-at one side of the pivot to hold said members in extended position when the being provided with a vertical bore in which the standard is telescopically fitted and being also provided with a set screw to engage the standard and a tool secured to and carried by the upper member and adapted to be arranged thereby on the anvil when said upper member is extended.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
