zen of the United IStates, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cuspidors,of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
rll`he invention relates to cuspidors.
rlhe invention relates more particularly to sanitary paper cuspidors having a removable cover.
The invention designs to provide a paper cuspidor having means for detachably securing a cover' therein.
The invention further designs to provide a paper cuspidor having a removable cover and resilient means for detachably securing the cover entirely within said receptacle.
The invention further designs to provide means for reinforcing the open end of the cuspidor, which means coperates with a suitable frame to support the cuspidor.
The invention further designs to provide a new and improved form of cuspidor.
Y'.lhe invention consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and more particularly deined by claim at the conclusion hereof.
1n the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The device comprises a conical cuspidor or receptacle 10, which is preferably made of paper, having a removable cover 11 which is adapted to be held within the cuspidor adjacent the upper edge thereof, means for detachably securing said cover to the cuspidor and a supportv 12 for the cuspidor.
The conical cuspidor or receptacle 10 may be made of nre-proof paper, and is provided with a bulge 13 adjacent the open end thereof, said bulge having an aperture 14 therein.
A portion of the cuspidor is out away, forming an aperture 15 which is diametrically opposite to the aperture 14 in the 'The removable cover 11 consists of a conical ringwhich may be made of paper or metal, and means are provided for seating it within the cuspidor adjacent the open end thereof. This means consists of a spring ring 18 having a lug or projection 17 thereon which is designed to t in the aperture l 14 in the bulge 13, said ring being separated to form ends 18 and 19 which serve as handles for manipulating it. The spring is attached to the cuspidor by pressing the ends 18 and 19 together and inserting the lug 17 in the aperture 14. 0n a release ofthe ends 18 and 19'the outer edge of the spring seats in the bulge 13, and the ends 18 and 19 en` gage the sides of the aperture 15. The lug 17 and ends 18 and 1.9 are designed to rest upon the upper ring 20 of the support 12. The spring 16 thus serves to keep the upper end of the conical paper cuspidor in open position and to seat it upon the support 12.
The support comprises a plurality of legs 21 having inclined brace members 22 which carry a conical member 23 designed to receive the lower end of the conical cuspidor, the sides of the cuspidor contacting with the brace members and the ring 2() of the support fitting beneath the bulge 13.
1n assembling the device, the ring 16 is secured in position in the manner previously pointed out, and the cuspidor then positioned in the support. Yllie removable cover 11 is then placed in the cuspidor and rests upon the upper surface oi' the ring 16.
The invention thus exempliiies a cuspidor having a removable cover and means for detachably securing said cover within the cuspidor, said cuspidor being disposed within a suitable support.
The invention is not to be restricted to the detail of construction herein set forth, but may be varied so as to be Within the scope of the appended claims.
What l claim is:
1. A cuspidor comprising a conical paper receptacle having a bulge adjacent the open i end thereof, and a removable conical paper ring having its upper edge portion secured within said receptacle adjacent said bulge to form a cover and a means for reinforcing the open end of said receptacle.
2. A cuspidor comprising a paper receptacle, having a bulge adjacent the open end thereof, a support therefor, and means seated within the bulge and resting upon the support for reinforcing the open end of said receptacle.
3. A cuspidor comprising a receptacle having a bulge adjacent the open end thereof, a removable cover for said receptacle, and means detachably secured within the bulge to provide a. seat for said cover.
4. A cuspid'or comprising a receptacle having a bulge adjacent the open end thereof, said bulge having an aperture therein, a
removable cover for said receptacle, and aspring ring for detachably securing said cover wlthm said receptacle, said ring being detachably secured with the bulge and hav- 15 Witnesses:
