An electro-rnagnetic brake comprising a plurality of poles disposed one behind the other in the braking direction and separated at their ends by air gaps Which are disposed obliquely to the braking direction and ex tend transversely from side to side of the brake; said poles having substantiallv the same shape at their braking surfaces.
