scription.
The object of my invention is to provide a cloth cutter having a knife normally disposed Within a casing which is mounted on a track bar alongwhich it is adapted to move, the track bar having means for holding the cloth to be cut against a corrugated member on a base to which the track bar is articulated.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification` in which the preferred form of my invention is disclosed.y
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the views in which- Figure 1 is a view showing in perspective a table or counter to which my invention is applied; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my invention; Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional fragmentary view showing the means for articulating the track bar with the base; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view showing in ing the outer end of the track bar to the base; and Figs. 5 and Gare enlarged sectional views showing the construction of the casing with the cutter disposed therein.
referring to the drawings it will be seen that a base 5 is provided, this base,.if
- desired, being recessed in a table or coun# ter 6. In the end of this base there is a recess 8 in which a transverse pin 9/ is secured, a bolt 10 having an eye 11'through which the bolt 10 passes. 'lhis bolt 10-is also disposed through an opening 12 in the bracket 13. The bracket 13 has vertically disposed anges 14 spaced apart between which is disposed theend 15 -of the, track bar 16, there being an orifice 17 infthe said end 15 of the track bar, through which is disposed a pin 18 which is secured to the iianges 14. In the base 5 there is a longitudinally disposed slot 19 which extends through the upper surface of the base 5, and in the track bar 16 there is a longitudinally extending slot 20 -which extends through the upper and lower surfaces of the track bar, the slot 20 being disposed in alinement with the slot 19 when the track bar 16 is in normal position over the base 5. In order to hold the track bar in normal position, I provide the outer end 2l of the track b ar with a pin 22 which is adapted to be c llsposed in the recess 23 in the track 24 which is secured to the base 5.v
Mounted for movingon the track bar 16 therevis a casing 25, t is casing 25 having inwardly disposed flanges 26 at its sides which are normally disposedf'vinv the guideways 27 in the sides of the track bar 16 the casing 25 being movablevv along the track bar and being prevented from becoming displaced by the 'engagement of the track bar 16 by the flanges 26 at the guide-` ways 27. slt 28 which is disposed in alinement with the slot 20 in the track bar 16. In this slot 20 there is disposed a lever 29 consisting of the sections 30, this lever 29 being pivoted to the casing at 31. The sections 30 of the casing are secured together by the bolts 32 and 32, a knife which may be a safety razor blade 33, being clamped between the sections 30 by means of the said bolts or screws 32 and 32a. The ends 34 of the sections 30 of the lever 29 are normally disposed beyond the end 35 'of the casin 25, so that the bolt 32*1 is disposed beyon the said end 35 of the casing, this bolt 32a serving to engage the end 35 of the casing to limit the upward movement of the end of the lever 29, which carries the knife 33. The other end 29,at 'of the lever is upwardly disposed and is provided with a linger iece 36 by whichthe said end 29 of the ever 29 may be moved toward the casing 25 to carry the end 29'J of the lever 29 down and with it the knife 33, the knife moving through the slot 2,0 in the track bar 16 to a position Within or adjacent to the slot 19 of the base 5. The end 29a of the lever 29 is normally held away from the casing 25 by a spring 37 which is secured to the end 29a of the said lever adjacent tothe nger piece 36, this spring 37 also bearing against the casing 25 at the end 38 of a recess 39 which is made in the top of the casing 25 to receive the said spring 37.
As ameans for holding the cloth between the base and the track bar 16 when the cloth is to be cut, I provide the base 5 at either side of the slot 19 with corrugated rubber strips 40 and the lower surface of the track bar 16 at either side of the slot 20 is provided With strips of velvet 41.
As shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, a
ratcateu nec. aa, irait..
This casing 25 has a vertical hook 42 may be secured to the edge of the table for receiving the pin 22 when the track bar 16 is raised from the table or counter I6 and is moved on its ivots to a position alog'the edge of the tab e.
Having/ thus described my lnventlon I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: y
1. In a cloth cutter, a track bar having a slot, a casing mounted on the track bar and movable therealong, there being a slot in the casing in alinement with the slot in the track bar, a lever. in two parts and pivoted withA the slot in the casing, a knife dis- )osed within the parts of the lever, a bolt lor clamping the parts of the lever together with the knife therebetween, the bolt being positioned for engaging the casing to limit the movement of the lever 'relativel to the casing and resilient means i'or hol ing the :wer yieldingly with the knife within the casing.
2. In a cloth cutter, a track bar having a slot, a casing movably mounted on the track bar, a member havin casing in alinement with t e slot in the track bar, a lever fulcrumed within the casing, a knife disposed within the casing and secured to one arm of the lever, the other arm of the lever extending upwardly, a spring having one terminal extending ilpwardly and secured to the last mentioned arm of the lever, and another terminal extending upwardly and bearing against the casing.
In testimonywhereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
