- Hor-BLAST s'rovn. i
To all whom t may concern Be it known that "I, J osEPrI'E. Hansrnnn,
of Cincinnati, inthe county of `Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain'newy and useful Improvements in Hot-Blastk Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which vit appertains to make and use the same. 1
This invention relates to improvementsfin stoves and more particularly to hot blast rings for heating stoves, the object of the invention being to provide simple and l'e'licient means for elfectuallydistributing the air blasts and to provide meanslocated at the front of the stove kfor controlling the' entrance of air to the blast ring.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists .in y.certain novel features of construction and Combinations ofparts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims. i
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a stove embodying my improvements, with the door removed; Fig. 2 is a horizontal transverse sectional view; Fig. 3 is avertical transverse section; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a portion of the hot blast ring, and Fig. 5 is a horizontal transverse sectional view of a stove, showing the -hot blast ring made to form a complete circle.
1 represents the body portion of a heating stove having a door opening 2 at its front.
A hot blast ring 3 is located within the body of the stove over the upper end of the [ire pot and may be supported by a ring 3a and by bolts 5a passing through lugs and through the stove body 1.
The hot blast ring 3 (which may be made in sections secured together) extends around the inside of the stove body from one side ofthe door opening to the other and, if lower than the door, said ring may form a complete circle, as shown in Fig. `5. y
The hot blast ring is made with an upper sloping wall 4 .and a lower convexwall 5, and the vertical wall ofk said ring may be formed by the body 1 of the stove, the latter thus forming one wall for each of two chambei's or ducts 7-8 within the ring, tsaid chambers or ducts being formed by a horizontal partition 9.
The convex wall of the lower chamber or Specification of Letters Patent. Pate'fedpec. 15, 1914. Appiicarion ined apra 25,1914: seran No. serata; f
ductvjf is formed a plurality of openi ings"'10,.through which air `may be discharged inwardly and Adownwardly into the "interior-of the stove,-this downward course bringingfthe heated air Amixedwith theris-V ing gases in vcloser proximity to the' burning fuell than vwould be p'ossiblewere the disp charge openings at or near the top or even kon the insidefcircumference ofthe hot blast ring and therefore insuring ignition of ythe gases tol a much greater extent than when allowed to rise high above the lflames before beingmixed with the hot air. i i
The lower ductl or chamber y8" of the ring is closed against the ingress of cold air by `a vertical wall 11, but means of communication betweentlie upper duct or chamber 7 y isprovided by an opening 12in thehorizon- .talr partition 9` about midway between the inlet ends ofthe ring, and ajgfvertical partivtion 13 maybe located in this opening, thus f separatingeach-of the two chambers 7 8 into two parts, whereby the air entering'respective ends of the device may be separately controlled. The upper duct or chamber 7 is enlarged near each .side of thedoor opening to form'ar'inlet chambers 14, 14 vcon'imunicating with said v upper duct or chamber. Hoods 15 are secured tothe outside of the bodyl of the stove and form parts ofthe inlet chambers, th'e'wall of being made with suitable opening to permit free communication betweenthe two parts of each of said inlet chambers. Damper plates 16 (which may, if desiredform parts of the doo-r frame) are secured `tothe hoods and are made with damper openings 17 to communicate with the inlet chambers. Dampers "18 are mounted on the plates 16 yfor controlling the inlet of air tothe blast ring.
Air passing througheither of the damper openings will enter inlet chamber v14 and from thenceflow through the upper duct or chamber 7 to the opening in the horizontal partition, passing through this opening to the lower duct or chamber 8 and there, nding exit through the discharge openings 10 in the lower convex wall, will enterthe combustion chamber of the stove at an angle inward and downward.
= When a front section 19 (Fig.r 5)7 is employed to form the blast ring into a complete circle, vthe said added section will be divided into upper and lower chambers with openings, in the wall of the `lower chamber,
the stove bodyv the sameas in the other portions .of the ring,
f and the upper chambers of said added sec` tion will be made to'communicate with, the
Having `fully describedmyinvention what I claim as new and desire'to secure by Let'- ters-Patent, is z- Y l. The combination with stove having l va doorV opening, oa hot blast ring having upper and lower chambers communicating with each other at ythe rear of the stove, and means at the sides of `the door opening for directing air into the upper chamber yof the ring, the wall of the lower chamber being inclined and having a plurality of openings directing air blasts from said lower chamber vdownwardly and inwardly.' o
2. The combination with av stove having a doory opening,.of a hot blast ring having upper and lower chambers communicating with each other at the rear of the stove, the wall of the lower chamber being inclined and having a plurality of openings directing air blasts from said lower chamber downwardly and inwardly, enlargements at the ends of said ring forming air inlet chambers communicating with the upper chamber, and 'meansy at thelsides of the door opening' for controlling the entrance of air into each of said air inlet chambers. i
8'. The combination with a stove having a vdoor opening, of a hot blast ringterniinatprovided with downwardly and inwardly dischargingair openings, a vertical partition in-saidintermediate section, horizontal y partitions in the end sections forming chambers segregatedV by said partitions from the lower portions of said end sections having t, the discharge openings, said" end sections provided with air inlet chambers communieating with said iirst-mentioned chambers, and dampers at respective sides of the door opening of the stove for controlling the en- 4 ytrance of air to said chambers.
v l.- rllhe combination with a stove having a door opening in its front, oit' a hot blast ring Vhaving va lower blast' wall provided with `downwardly andy inwardly discharging "openings, partitions in said ring dividing the same into superimposed chambers segregated fromeach other at their iront ends Vand communicating with eachotherv at the rear portion of the stove, and dampers at respective sides of the door openingfor controlling theadmission of air to the upper of the superimposed chambers.
In testimony whereof, l have signed this 'specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. v Y
