Although I'ind'it convenient to dispose the oppositely electrically polarized elements of the lamp casing in air spaced relation as shown in Fig. l, it is to be understood that they may be assembled in closer relation it separated by other dielectric. For instalice, as shown in Figs. V and VI the lamp casing includes the metallic shells 2U and 27 separated by insulating inatcria: and QS); sai-:l shells and 2T being similarly polarized inl connection with the battery and said shell QG beingT oppositely polarized; so that when the shell 25 is punctured, as indicated in Fig. VI the shells Q5 and t are electricallv connected by contact with each other and il' the casing is otherwise -`crushed or displaced the shell 27 comes in contact with the reflector shell which. lil-:e the shell 5 above described, is connected with the opposite pole of said battery; so that. in either case, the lamp is short circuited and extinguished.
l do notdesire to limit myself to the precise details of construction and arrangement herein set forth, as it is obvious that various niodilications niay be made therein without departing from the essential features ol my invention as deiined in the appended claims.
l claim:-
l. ln a portable electric lighting apparatus, the combination with an electric generator; of an electric lamp in circuit therewish; a substantially hcrinetical lamp cas'- inlr inclosing said lamp and havingV distinctrrmlxible portions; and a spring pressed elc- :ncnt whereby the lanip is extinguished when .said casing is punctured or otherwise crushed, the lamp circuit being broken when one crushable portion is displaced, and short circnited when another crushable portion is displaced.
2. A ininers safety lamp casing, including an incandescent electric lamp socket and having crushable' portions, and a resilient 45 element included in the electric circuit with said socket, .fuitoinaticallyy movable to break said circuit when one portion of the casing is displaced, and movable to short circuit said circuit when another portion of said casing is displaced.
3. A ininers safety lainp casing, including an electric lamp socket and having crushable portions, and an element included in the electric circuit with said socket, movable to break said circuit when one portion of the casing is displaced, and movable to short circuit said circuit when another portion of said casing is displaced.
4. A miners safety lamp, including an outer casing and an inner casing; means normally maintaining said casings in insulated relation; a spring,- pressed elementbetween said casings, normally electrically connected With the outer casing; and a crush-able element normally insulating said spring pressed element from said inner casing; whereby when said crnshable element is displaced, said spring pressed elementis electrically connected with said inner casing to short circuit the lamp.
5. A ininers safety lamp, including an outer casing and an inner casing; means porinally maintaining` said casings in insulated relation; a spring.,r pressedy element bet-Ween said casings; and a crushable element not nially insulating said spring pressed element from said inner casing; whereby when said criishahle element is displaced, said spring pressed element is electrically connected With said inner casing to short circuit the lamp.
