HERMAN G. S. DENKER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
SHOE-TREE.
Application filed March 28, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HERMAN G. S. DEN- itnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Trees, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shoe trees.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings,-Figure 1 is a side elevation of n y invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the stationary foot piece. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the pivoted toe piece. Fig. 1 is a detail view of the threaded rod tor raising and lowering the pivoted toe-piece. Fig. is a detail plan view of the adjustable wedge. Fig. 6 is a side view of Fig.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming: part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate. like parts throughout the several views, 1 designates the foot por ion of the tree which is cut aw at its tront end and is provided with two recesses 2, 2 into which the lugs 3, 3 of the pivoted toe-piece 41 fits, said toepiece 1- being shaped to fit the cut-away front end of the foot portion 1, the abutting; ends at the toe-piece and foot portion diverg upwardly to permit the outer end of the toe-piece to be raised. it pin 5 passes through the foot portion 1 and througl the said lugs 3. The said footportion 1 and the toe piece 4e are provided with grooves 6 and 7. extending; out to the outer end of the said foot portion and toe piece respectively. in which the adjustable wedge 8 opera; to raise and lower the toe piece 1. These grooves 6 and 7 prevent sidewise movement of the said adjustable wedge S. In the back of the foot-portion 1 is a pivoted screw-threaded bearing 9 adapted to swing on the pin 10 passing through said bearing 9 and said foot-portion 1. This swinging bearing 9 being adapted to assume the proper position relat've to the rod 11 when the latter is screwed in'or out to raise or lower the toe-piece. ed rod 11 passes through said bearing 9 and has on its inner end a pivoted bearing 12 the ends 13 of which fit into the apertures 14 of the wedge S. The outer end of the rod 11 is provided with a. hand-piece 15 by means of which said rod is turned. At the rear of the foot-portion l is an adjustable rod 16 having a head 17. said rod 16 being adapted to be screwed in and out to fit the desired size shoe. When the tree is inserted in the shoe, the rod 11 is turned in one direction to force the wedge S :t'orward raising the toe-piece 4 up tight against the upper and holding the said toe-piece a rigid while the operator hammers out any wrinkles or creases in the said upper. When the rod 11 is turned in the opposite direction the wedge S will be drawn toward the rear of the tree and allows the toe-piece 1 to drop down and the said tree to be removed from the shoe.
Having thus described my invention. what I claim is:
Tn a shoe-tree the combination of a footpiece 1 which is cut away at its front end and having a groove 6 in the upper surface of the said cut-awav portion extending out to the outer end thereof and a rec 2 in opposite sides of said groove 6. a toe-piece 1 to fit the said cut-away portion of the footpiece and having a groove 7 in its lower surface coincident with the groove 6 in the toot-piece, lugs 3 projecting downwardly on opposite sides of the groove 7 and adapted to fit into said rcces s 2 in close proximity to the abutting cage of the toe-piece and ttootpiece, the abutting ends of the toe-piece and foot piece diverg' to permit the toepiece to be raised at its outer end. a pin 5 passing through the said toot-piece and said lugs 23. a threaded bearing 9 pivoted in the rear of said foot-piece. a screw-threaded rod 11 passing through said bearing, and a wedge 8 pivoted to one and 0t said rod and adapted to be forced back and forth in the . ojrcoves 6 and 7 by said rod to raise and lower the toe piece, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I a'ltix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
