To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILBER O. PLATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oil City, in the county of Venango and pulleys or broken; and with these and.
minor objects my invention consists of the parts and'combination of parts as will be more fully hereinafter pointed out.
In the drawings,,Figure 1 is a top plan view partly in section of a governor in normal position, embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view in elevation of the latch, its bigger and immediately associated parts, the parts being shown in normal position. Fig. 3 is a view similarto Fig. 1 with the parts in abnormal position. Fig. 4: is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the parts in abnormal position.
The reference character 1 designates the governor frame, 2 the governor balls, which may, generally speaking be of any approved construction.
e The spindle consists of a lower portion 1 and an upper portion 1 abutting against each other- The lower portion, supporting the upper one is keyed in the frame 1 preferably by the screw 5 which connects the pulley 5 with the governor frame 1, so as to revolve therewith, but also to slide axiallyin the governor frame actuated by the balls 2. The upper portion 1" of the governor spindle is yoked as at 3, there being a bearing 4 extending across the yoke to be hereinafter referred to. The upper spindle portion 1 is not keyed to, and does therefore not partake in the rotation of the frame 1. 5 is a governor belt pulley suitably mounted on the governor frame.
The bracket 6 is secured to the engine frame in any suitable manner and is provided with a suitable journal bearing 8' shown in section, in Fig.1, through which the spindle of the governor frame passes.
7 is an arm of bracket 6 having connection at one end with the enlargement which forms the bearing 8 of the governor frame, said frame being secured in said bearing by means of a set screw 9 engaging with a groove 1 in the upper part of the frame.
A sleeve 10 extends at right angles from the arm 7 and is provided with .an abutment screw plug 11, and a short arm 12 extending beyond said abutment on which one end of a coiled spring 13 is seated.
14 is a plunger slidably mounted and secured in the sleeve and projecting through openings formed in the arm 7 and brackets 6. 15 is a coiled spring one end of which is seat ed against the abutment plug 11 while "the other end is seated against the bottom of 15 are mounted in a hole formed in the sleeve.
16 is a bell crank lever pivoted in the yoked end 17 of the arm 7 by meansvof the pin 18. The upper arm of the bell crank lever is provided with a notch 19 at its outer end serving as a bearing which is constructed to bear on the bearing 4 of the spindle yoke 3 as clearly shown in the drawings.
It will be seen that the connection between these bearing points 19 and 4: is such that the connection between the two is especially adapted to be broken. This feature will be hereinafter referred to. The lower endof the bellcrank lever 16 is connected to the spring 13, there being a seat or clamp 20,
carried by the outer end of the spring.

In this connection it will be noted that the upper end'of'the bell] crank lever is not entirely withdrawn froin theyoke on the end of the spindle, but stayslithe yoke far "enough to keep' the'yoke from-revolving.
