FEED-MIXER.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed February 11, 1914. Serial No. 818,092.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that GEORGE WEBBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Vashington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Feed-Mixers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to feed mixers and it consists in the novel features described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a feed mixer of simple structural arrangement especially adapted to be used for mixing poultry feed.
Vith this object in view the mixer comprises a frame having a body pivoted therein at a point approximately midway between the ends of the body. rThe said body is provided at its top with a hinged door and the bottom of the body is curved or arcuate in transverse section. vThe body is provided at one end with an opening which is normally closed by a slide. Arshaft is journaled in bearings provided at the ends of the body and a stirrer of especial design is mounted upon the shaft. A bearing is provided at one end portion of the frame, for the reception of the shaft and any suits able means may be provided for rotating the shaft.

The mixer comprises a frame 1 having at the opposite sides of its top portion bearings 2. A body 3 is located in the upper portion of the frame l and is provided at its opposite side and at points midway between its ends with plates 4. The plates 4 are provided with outstanding gudgeons 5 which are journaled in the bearings 2. The plates 4 are further provided with lugs 6 which are adapted to encounter the upper portion of the frame 1 and limit the tilting movement of the body 3 in the said frame. The body 3 is provided with an arcuate bottom 7 and the top of the said body is normally closed by a door 8 which is hinged at one end to the upper portion of the body, the said door being provided upon its upper side with a handle 9. Bearings 10 are mounted at the ends of the body 3 and a shaft 11 is journaled for rotation between the said bearings 10 the shaft 11 is provided at one end with a crank handle 12 which is disposed beyond one end of the frame 1 when the body 3 is in a horizontal position in the said frame. A half bearing 13 is ixed to one end of the frame 1 and a half bearing 14 is hingedly connected with the said half bearing 13. These bearings when in closed position with relation to each other are held by a stud 15 which `is pivoted upon the frame or the half bearing 13 and which passes through an opening provided in the free end portion of the half bearing 14 and which when turned is adapted to hold the half bearing 14 in a closed position upon the half bearing 13. The bearing of which the parts 13 and 14 are components is adapted to receive one end portion of the shaft 11 when the said shaft is in a horizontal position in the frame 1. The body 3 is provided at one end with an opening 16 and guides 17 are mounted upon the outer surface of that end of the body at which the opening 16 is located and a gate 18 is slidably mounted in the guides 17 and is adapted to be closed over the opening 16. Spiders 19 are mounted upon the shaft 11 between the ends of the body 3 and the said spiders are provided with curved arms 20. Blades 21 are mounted upon the arms 2O and are disposed in parallel relation and extend longitudinally of the body 3. The blades 21 when passing along the arcuate bottom 7 of the said body are spaced slightly from the inner surface of the said arcuate body.
The operation of the mixer is as follows presuming that the shaft 11 is received between the members 13 and 14 the door 8 is raised and the different kinds of feed to be mixed are placed in the body 3. The door 8 is then closed land by using the handle 12 the shaft 11 is rotated whereby the blades 21 are moved through the material and the material is mixed in the body 3. When the'mixture of the material has been completed the stud 15 is turned so that the half bearing 1 4 may be swung back from over the half bearing 13 and then the adjacent end of the shaft 11 is swung in an upward direction out of the half bearing 13 so that the body 3 is disposed in an inclined position and` the lugs 6 are brought in contact with the upper edge of the frame 1. Previous to this gai however the gate 1S has been raised in the guides 17 and consequently when the body 3 is tilted as described the contents thereof will flow out through the opening 16 into a receptacle (not shown) which may be placed upon the floor below the lower end of the said body 3. Should there be a tendency on the part of the material in the body 3 to stick or lodge therein the said body may be given a succession of jolts by swinging the shaft l1 and 'thereby causing the lugs 6 to forcibly encounter the frame 1 and thus the material in thebody may loe-loosened so that it may dow readily through the opening 16 as above described.

'A mixer comprising a frame provided with bearings, a body having at its sides plates provided with gudgeons which are journaled in the bearings, said plates also having outstanding lugs adapted to encounter the frame when the body is tilted, the body being provided at one end with an opening, a gate slidably mounted at the end of the body and adapted to close said opening, 4a vshaft journaled in the body, spiders mounted upon the shaft and having arms,v and blades connectingthe arms ofthe adjacent spiders together.
