To all whom it 112 ay concern:
Be it known that I, VIOLA vV. Ronrnsox, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Union Springs, in the county of Bullock and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Luggage Cycles or Carriers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to luggage carriers or cycles and has for its object the production of a simple and efficient foldable or collapsible carrier which may be conveyed from place to place in order that luggage such as suit cases or sample cases may be placed thereon for transportation.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and efficient carrier which may be firmly held in a folded posi tion in order to allow the same to be carried when not in use.
WVith these and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the carrier. Fig; 2 is a front View thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the carrier. Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of the carrier in a folded position.

up in a vertical position for the purpose of allowing the lug age to be placed thereon and easily conveyed from place to place.
it should be understood that the present device is adapted to be of sufficient height to allow a suit case or other article of lug gage to be placed thereon, and is adapted to be approximately twenty-four inches high or of suilicient height to allow the person owning the carrier to place the luggage upon the top thereof and push the device along by the handle of the valise or suit case placed upon the carrier.
It will be seen by carefully considering the drawings that 1 designates the main frame which comprises a substantially rectangular body having the inturned end portions 2 thereof riveted together as indicated at 3. A pair of depending brackets 4 are carried upon each side of the frame 1 and have axle bracing rods 5 secured in the lower bifurcated ends 6 thereof. The front axle engaging members 5 are bent inwardly and engage the axle 7 supporting the front wheel 8, which wheel may be formed of any desired construction and is preferably provided with a cushion tire 9. A pair of front braces 10 are secured to the sides of the frame 1 as indicated at 11, and these front braces 10 are also bent inwardly and engage the axle 7 for efficiently bracing the steering wheel 8. The rear pair of depending brackets 1 also engage the rear axle supporting members 5, and these rear axle supporting brackets 5 support the rear axle 1-1 which. axle extends transversely of the frame 1. A pair of auxiliary rear bracing members 15 are secured to the rear end of the frame 1 and also engage the rear axle 14 which rear axle supports a pair of Wheels 16 having the usual cushion tire 17. It
should be understood that by producing a three-wheel vehicle of this nature the same may be readily steered by the handle of the as illustrated in Fig. 4.
valise or other article positioned upon the top of the luggage carrier as above described.
A pair of vertical sectional standards 18 are carried by the frame 1, and each stand ard 18 as above stated comprises a pair of sections which are connected at their inner ends by means of a hinge joint 19. The lower section of each standard is provided with downwardly extending diverging arms 20, which are pivotally connected to the inner face of the frame 1 and are laterally braced by means of a transversely extending bar 21. A pair of links 22 are connected to the rod 21 and to the transversely extending rod 23 carried by the base 1 as is illustrated in Figs. 2 and 5. These bracing links 22 may of course be collapsed so as to allow the sectional standards 18 to be readily collapsed to a folded position such The upper section of each standard 18 is provided with outwardly bowed upwardly extending arms 24, which arms are braced by means of a substantially inverted U- shape bracing member 25 having its ends secured to the arms 24 by means of rings 26, and the upper portion thereof engages the under face of the top frame 27 as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 2. The upper ends of the arms 24 are pivotally connected to the respective ends of the top frame 27 so as to allow the frame to be collapsed and brought to a folded position such as illustrated in Fig. 4. The top frame 27 comprises a rectangular body comprising a pair of side members 28 connected at their ends by means of transversely extending rods 29. A plurality of diagonally extending cross rods 30 are carried by the side members 28 and constitute a support upon which the articles of luggage may be easily placed. A plurality of straps 31 are suspended from the loop portions 32 formed upon the side members 28 and are adapted to be placed over the article of luggage for efficiently holding the article against displacement from the top 27 of the luggage carrier.
As is illustrated in Fig. 1 the braces 22 are provided with stop fingers 33 which will prevent the links 22 from folding in one direction and will only allow the links to be folded upwardly as the sections of the standards 18 are folded to bring the top frame 27 down close upon the bottom frame.
a A pair of bracing cleats 34 are carried upon each side of the frame 1 and comprise fiat body portions 35 which are firmly held to the frame 1 by means of the bolt 36, and the bracing members 34 also comprise thickened head portions as illustrated in Fig. 6, which thickened head portions are provided with curved inner faces 37 for engaging the diverging arms 20 upon the outer face thereof and bracing the same against lateral swinging movement, thereby greatly relieving the strain from the con necting or pivot bolt 36 and also producing a wide bearing face for the arms 20 when the same are in a vertical extended position. It should be further understood that the brackets or bracing arms 15 are provided with off-set portions 15 which ofi-set portions allow the brace 15 to pass to the side of the rear wheel 16 without interfering with the rotation of these wheels. It will be seen by carefully considering Fig. 1 that the rear braces 5 are constructed similar to the braces 15. 7 and 8, a lock has been provided for holding the top frame 27 down firmly upon the lower frame 1, and this look comprises a primary leaf portion 38 and an auxiliary As is illustrated in *Figs. 1,-
leaf portion 39. The auxiliary leaf portion 39 is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 40 in which is adapted to fit the rotatably mounted pin 41 having an upturned end for preventing the accidental removal of the hinge leaf portion 39 fromoff the pin 41. The primary leaf portion 38 is fixedly secured to the frame 1 and a spacing block 42 is carriedupon the outer face of each side bar 28 which block 42 supports the pin 41 as is illustrated in Figs,
7 and 8. It should be understood that the pin 41 may be so rotated as to allow the auxiliary leaf portion 39 to be readily removed from engagement with the pin 41 when it is desired to set the carrier to a:
vertical or operative position.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a very simple and. efficient device has been produced for, facilitatingv the conveying of luggage from place to place, and
also that a simple and efficient device has been produced whereby the luggage carrier may be readily folded or collapsed soas toallow the same to be easily carried upon a train or other vehicle of conveyance. It should be further understood that the present device is adapted to carry suit cases and the like as above explained and is adapted to travel to the side of the person so as to allow the same to be driven by the handle of the suit case or other article placed upon the top of the luggage carrier.
As is clearly illustrated in the modification shown in Fig. 15 the bars 27 are each provided with a loop 27 for receiving the straps 28 carried by the handle 29. The straps 28 are adapted to fit in the loops 27 and the handle 29 may pass over the top of w an article carried by the top of the carrier so as to allow the operator to push the vehicle along by means of the handle 29.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
