closed or in any position.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a device of the typespecified, which will be comparatively sim lo and inexpensive to manufacture, reliab e and efiicient in use, and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter fully more described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

Fig. 7 is a modified form of easing adapted for window sashes having parting strips Referring to the accompanying drawings by similar characters of reference, the numoral 1 denotmin general a window frame, comprising the upper and lower rails 2 and in the direction of the 3 connected at their ends by the vertical side rails 4, the latter of which are provided with the customary sash guides 5, in which are slidably located the u per and lower sashes 6 and 7. These sai sashes 6 and 7 have the usual glass panels 8, mounted therein and fastened against displacement by any suitable means.
Brackets 9 and 10, are secured to the inner sides of the rails 4 and lower side of the sash 6 respectively, upon the outer side of the window frame, as clearly shown in the drawings. If desired, similar brackets (not shown in the drawings) can be attached to the rails 4 and sash 6', within a room, but as the construction will be identical with the following descri tion, it is thou ht that the description of ut one set will 0 sufiicient.
Horizontal arms 11 project from the brackets 9 and 10, and have hinged thereto as at 12, movable sup orting rods 13, which are yieldingly force upwardly to a horizontal position by the coil springs 14. These rods are provided with fingers 15 and 16 arranged to contact with the underside of the arm 11, thereby limiting the upward movement of the said rods. telesco ing casing 17, formed with ears 18 for sli ing engagement with the rods 13, is slidable upon the latter and normally forced anels 8, by the retractile springs 19, whic are secured to the said cars 18 and fingers 16 respectively. The ears 18 are formed with sleeves 18 to prevent the ears from binding upon the movement of the casing 17. iAn adjustable clamp 20 is disposed withiii the te escopingsections of the casing 17, and retained against displacement by the locking screws 21 which extend through the slots 22 formed in the casing 17 and enage the threaded o nings 28, formed in 516 said clamp. Owing to this specific construction, it is ossible to adjust the clamp to and from c panel 8 as the strlp 24, formed from felt or the like becomes worn. As shown in Fig. 5, this strip 24 1s reversible so that when one side becomes too worn to be remedied by the adjustment of the clamp, the latter can or .putty en gin members are ournaledupon t e en of the casings 17, for a ur ose to be later explained.

The operation of the device is as follows: \Vhen the operator desires to clean the panels 8, the upper sash is grasped firmly by handles (not shown which can be attached thereto) and raised and lowered with the desired rapidity. The strip 24 which is ob viously forced by the springs into engagement with the said panels, passes over the latter cleaning them. In cases where the panels are very dirty, a little water can be applied to the same which will be taken up by the strip 24 and spread over the window. As the rollers 2.), which are spaced slightly from the panels during this operation, reach the upper rail of the upper sash and lower rail of the lower sash, they obviously swing the casings 1T outwardly against the tension of the springs and prevent injury to the various operating parts in the event of rapid operation, while as a further preventative of injury to the casings carried by the upper sash, the roller by its upwardly rigid connection with the brackets 9, through the arm 11 and fingers 15 and 16, contacts with the lower rail 3, thereby preventing the casin from contactin therewith.
A packing strip 26 of fe t or the like is secured to the upper side of the casing 17 carried by the sash 8, and when the sashes are in their normal positions as shown in Fig. l, the said strip 26 is forced by the springs to seal the space between the meeting ends of the said sashes against the entrance of air.
The resiliency of the springs is sufficiently strong to hold the sashes rigidly relative to the frame and to each other, thereby actin as a window silencer and eliminating al noise of rattling, when the windows are in any position.
It should be understood in this connection, that various minor changes in the specific details of construction, can be resorted to within; the scone of the appended claims, without departing from or sacrificing any the advantages of the invention, and that is, for the purpose of illustrating I have shown my device in connection with the window of a building, I do not wish to be limited to such use alone, but-may employ the same in connection with any other structure to which the various parts will adapt themselves, such as show cases, car windows and the like.
- From the foregoing disclosures taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be manifest that a window cleaner is provided which will fulfil'all the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. In a window cleaner, a casin a. reversible cleaning strip carried there y, and putty engaging means for guiding said strips over the contacting puttied e ges of the window.
2. In a window cleaner, bodily movable sup portin brackets, a laterally yieldable casing hinged thereto, and a cleaning strip carried by the casing to engage th panels of a window.
3. In a window clearer, supporting brackets, rods movably connected thereto, a casing movabl connected to the said rods, means for yieldingly forcing the casing in a given direction, and a strip adjustably supported within said casing and projecting therefrom, as and for the purposes set forth.
4. In a window cleaner, supporting brackets, arms extending therefrom, rods hinged to said arms and yieldingly connected to the latter, means for limiting the hinged movement of the rods, a casing slidable upon said rods and yieldingly forced in a (given direction, a strip adjustable within sai casing and extending therefrom to engage the panels of a window, and rollers carried by said casing as and for the purposes set forth.
5. In a window cleaner a plurality of supporting brackets, arms extending therefrom, supporting rods hinged to said arms, fingers formed upon said rods to engage the arms and limit the upward movement of therods, springs connecting said rods and arms and normally forcing the rods upwardly, a telescopin casing slidable u on said rods, springs or forcing the casing toward the inner ends of the rods, a clamp adjustable within the casing and a reversible strip carried by the clam and designed to enga e the panels of a win ow and rollers carried y the casing as and for the purposes set forth,
6. In a device of the character described, for use in connection with a window frame and its sashes, brackets secured to the frame and certain 'of said sashes, casings adjustable in said brackets, strips mounted in said casings, said strips designed to clean a plurality of window sashes upon the movement of one sash, and rollers carried by the easings, as and for the pur oses set forth.
