This invention has for its object the pro duction of a simple, efficient and rapid means for stripping the Waste yarn from the bobbins removed, discharged or ejected from the shuttle in ,a loom provided with filling replenishing mechanism; and the object is to provide a device ofthis character-which will entirely and completely remove the waste yarn, leaving the bobbin clean and without injuring or roughening the surface of the bobbiln itself.
The invention involves features of con struction and operation by which these desired results are'practically secured, and
which will appear more fully from the accompanying description and drawings and will be completely pointed out in the claims. The drawings show a preferred form of mechanism embodying the invention.

The machine comprises a suitable supporting frame herein shown as comprising the' base 1, the bed-plate 2 and suitable standards 3 by which the bed-plate is supported from and above the base. Suitable mechanism is provided'for giving an intermittent rotation to the rotary bobbin carrier to bring it opposite the plunger to be described, which in this construc tion is located at the lowermost point of travel of the carrier. In the construction shown a ratchet 18 is provided at the rear of the head 7 and rigid therewith, and there is one tooth in the ratchet for each bobbin support on the carrier. A 'rertical reciprocating pawl carrying rod 19 is mounted Ill:
adjacent the ratchet 18. A pawl is pivotally mounted on the pawl carrier 19 and held up against the ratchet 18 by a spring 21, so that upon each reciprocation of the pawl carrier 19 the bobbin carrier is rotated one step thus successively bringing the bobbin supports and the bobbin supported therein to the lowermost position and opposite the notch 10 in the tip support 9. The pawl carrier 19 is pivoted at its lower end to a lever 22, fulcrumed at and held by a spring 24: against an eccentric 25 on a shaft 26 driven from any suitable source of power. Thus upon the rotation of the shaft the awl is given its actuated movement to rotate the bobbin carrier intermittently.
The rotary position of the bobbin carrier at each step is accurately defined and the bobbin carrier is locked at the conclusion of its rotary movement by suitable mechanism. In the construction illustrated a spring arm 27 mounted on the bed-plate carries at its free end a head 28 adapted to spring and fit into the mouth of the butt supporting notches 8. Acam member 29 is mounted on the pawl carrier 19 and has its inclined or cam end so arranged that when the pawl carrier moves upward it forces the head 28 V outwardly andfrees the bobbin carrier to rotation. During the rotation of the bobbin carrier between successive positions the head 28 rides on the periphery of the disk 7 and drops into the next notch 8. The device thus presents a spring positioning lock defining and locating the position of the bobbin carrier at each step of its movement, and locking it in position while the stripping operation is beingperformed.
The plunger mechanism already referred to is so located as to bring the plunger in H line with the axis of the bobbin to be stri ped when the bobbin upon the rotation of t e bobbin carrier reaches the stripping position which is herein shown as the lowermost point of rotation. The plunger mechanism as illustrated comprises a plunger 30 mounted in bearings 31 on the bed-plate 2 and alined with the bobbin when in position to be stripped. The plunger is reduced at its forward end as shown at 32 and has slidingly mounted on its extreme forward end a cup shaped head 33. In the form illustrated this head is keyed to the reducedportion of the plunger, a set screw 34: cnteringa key slot in the plunger. A washer 35 is mounted on the reduced portion 32 and a coiled spring 36 surrounds the reduced portion 32 abutting against the body of plunger and the washer 35 and thus holding the cup shaped head 33 at the extreme end ,of the plunger as illustrated in Fig. 2. standard 37 is mounted on the bedlate in front of the forward bearing 31 an has an a erture 38 of sufiicient size to permit the p unger 30 to pass freely therethrough, but
The plunger is given a reciprocating movement by means of a lever 39 having a slotted engagement at 40 with the plunger and pivoted at 41 to the standard on the base. This lever is retracted by the coiled spring 42 and moved forward by the cam. 43 on the shaft 26. The cam 29 and the eccentric 25 are so timed that each time the bobbin reaches the lowermost or bobbin stripping position and comes in line with the plunger the plunger moves forward to perform the stripping operation.

The tips of the bobbin are pressed against the edge of the tip supporting disk 9. The bobbins are put in place preferably during a pause in the rotation of the bobbin carrier. As the bobbin carrier continues its rotation the bobbins are carried around until they reach the lowermost or stripping position opposite the plunger 30 and beneath the notch 10 in the tip supporting disk. Thereu on the plunger is actuated, the cup shape head 33 rides on to the tip of the bobbin and if the bobbin is at all out of alinement brings it into alinement and centers it. The tip of the bobbin then rests against the extreme end of the plunger and as the plunger continues its forward movement the bobbin is. forced throu h the stripper jaws which yieldingly grip t e barrel and as the movement is continued the waste is stripped along the barrel. If any yarn is caught by the jaws or bobbin carrier, it is taken care of by a clearing device which seizes theyarn and removes it from the bobbin carrier. This device is shovvn as a r0- tating head 49 provided with a roughened surface such as a Covering of card clothing and located adjacent to the bobbin carrier. In the construction illustrated the head 49 is carried by a shaft 50 mounted in a bracket fil secured to one of the standards 3 and this shaft 50 is driven by a belt 52 running over a ulley 53 on the shaft 26. i
t will thus be seen that the machine is en- The only thing required of the operative being to position the bob bins in the bobbin carrier. The bobbins stripped clean pass into one receptacle and the Waste into a separate receptacle. The waste is confined and hold by the head 33 until it is dropped into the chute 4-8, and any yarn clinging to the rotary carrier is cleared by the roughened head 49. The operation is continuous and the bobbins are stripped with great facility and thoroughness. A box 54 may be provided in the bcd-plate adjacent the bobbin carrier for holding a supply of bobbins to be stripped Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A machine for stripping bobbins conr prising a rotary bobbin carrier, a plurality of bobbin butt supports thereon, a plurality of strippers thereon, a plunger, and means for giving a relative longitudinal mpvement to said plunger and each of said supports as they are brought opposite each other by the rotation of the carrier vhcreby the bobbin is passed through the strippers and the waste thereon removed.
2. A machine for stripping bobbins coinprising a rotary'l'iobbin carrier, a plurality of bobbin butt supports located equidistantly about the carrier periphery, a stripper mounted on the carrier ad acent each of said supports to embrace the bobbin barrel, a plunger means for intermittently rotating the carrier successively to brlng each bobbin supported therein oppositclhe plun ger, and means for giving a relative longitudinal movement to said pgunger and carrier as they come opposite 0: ch other.
3. A IIHlClilEK tor stripping bobbins comprising a rotary bobbin carrier. a plurality of bobbin butt supports limited equri'hs tantlv about the carrier periphery. :1. pair of stripper jaws yieldingly pressed together adapted to surround partially and to grip yie dingly the bobbm barrel and mounted 0n Sd'd carrier adjacent each of said sup a lunger, means for intermittently rotating the carrier successively tr ne each bobbin supported therein opposite the plunger, and means for giving a relative longitudinal movement to said plunger and carrier as they come opposite each other.
4. A machine for stripping bobbins comprising a rotary disk carrier, a series of bobbin strippers and supports located equidistantly about the carrier periphery, a single plunger device, means for automatically and intermittently rotating said carrier to bring successively the bobbins supported thereon opposite said plunger device and means for locking said carrier against rotation when each bobbin supported thereon arrives opposite'said plunger.
5. A machine for stripping bobbins comprising a rotary disk carrier, a series of bobbin strippers and supports located equi-distantly about the carrier periphery, a single plunger device, means for automatically and intermittently rotating said carrier to bring successively the bobbins supported thereon opposite said plunger device, means for locking the said carrier against rotation when each bobbin supported thereon arrives opposite said plunger, and a support for the bobbin tips to maintain the axial direction thereof during the rotation of the car rier.
6. A machine for stripping bobbins com prising a rotary disk carrier, a series of bobbin strippers and supports located equidistantly about the carrier periphery, a singlc plunger device, means for automatically and intermittently rotating said carrier to bring successively the bobbins supported thereon opposite said plunger device, means for locking said carrier against rotation when each bobbin supported thereon arrives opposite said plunger and a fixed annular support located parallel to and concentric With the said carrier to guide the bobbin tips and maintain the axial direction of the bobbins during the rotation of the carrier.

A machine for stripping bobbins comprising a rotary bobbin carrier, a series of pairs of stripper jaws arranged at equal intervals preferably on said carrier, springs for yieldingly drawing the jaws of each pair together, openings through said carrier in line withthe jaw opening of each stripper pair, and means acting as each pair of stripper jaws comes opposite in the rotation of the carrier to force the bobbin through said jaws stripping the Waste thercfrom and through said carrier, ejecting the bobbin at the rear of the carrier and thus separating the Waste and bobbins.
8, A machine for stripping bobbins comprising a pair of stripper jaws yieldingly pressed together and adapted to surround partially and to grip yieldlngly the bobbin barrel. a device to contact with the tip f the bobbin, means to give a positive relative rigrdinal movem nt to said pair oi stripper jaws and said device to cause the waste on the bobbin to be stripped from the base toward the tip, and resilient means to give a yielding relative longitudinal movement in the opposite direction to said pair of stripper jaws and said device to restore said parts to initial position.
9. A machine for stripping bobbins comprising a rotary bobbin carrier, a plurality of bobbin butt supports thereon, a plurality of strippers thereon, a plunger, means for operating said plunger to force each bobbin as it comes opposite said plunger through the strippers and ejecting it from the carrier with the waste stripper therefrom, and a pawl and ratchet mechanism for giving an intermittent rotary movement to said carrier.
10. A machine for stripping bobbins comprising a rotary bobbin carrier, a plurality of bobbin butt supports thereon, a plurality of strippers thereon, a plunger, means for operating said plunger to force each bobbin as it comes opposite said plunger through the strippers and eject it from the carrier with the Waste stripped therefrom, a pawl and ratchet mechanism for giving an intermittent rotary movement to said carrier and a spring positioning lock for holding the bobbin carrier in position at the end of each intermittent movement and during the stripping movement of the plunger.
11. A machine for stripping bobbins comprising a rotary bobbin carrier, a plurality of bobbin butt supports thereon, a plurality of yielding stripper jaws located in line with each butt support, a plunger, a. cup
shaped nead slidingly mounted at the end of the plunger and adapted to on age the bobbin carrier while allowing t e continued movement of the plunger whereby as a bobbin comes opposite the plunger it will be alined by the cup shaped head and ejected through the bobbin carrier by the plunger lmotling through and with respect to said rear 12. A machine for stripping bobbins comprising-a bobbin carrier, an opening therein to receive a bobbin butt, a pair of yielding jaws mounted on said carrier with'the jaw openings in line with the butt supporting opening, the said jaws yieldingly em bracing and gripping the bobbin barrel, :1- plunger alined with said jaw and butt supporting openings, a cup shaped head slidingly mounted on the end of the plunger and held projected by a spring, means for reciprocating the plunger whereby upon the movement of the plunger toward the cari'ier the head would engage and center the bobbin tip and upon the continued movement of the plunger the head will engage the bobbin carrier and pause while the end of the plunger will force the bobbin through the jaws and carrier. removing the Waste therefrom.
