METAL-POT FOR TYPOGRAPHICAL CASTING-MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dee. 1, 1914.
Application led June 3, 1914. Serial No. 842,573.
T 0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, CARL MUEHLEISEN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at 23 Chausseestrasse, Berlin, N. 4, in the Empire of Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Metal- Pots for Typographical Casting-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved metal pot for typographical casting machines.k In order to regulate the gas supply to the burner of the metal pots of a typographical casting machine, a thermostat or gas regulator or governor is provided on the metal pot, which, according to the temperature of the molten metal, automatically opens or closes, more or less, the gas valve or aperture. In the constructions hitherto employed this gas governor has been arranged near the mouth piece, but the present invention provides an opening or pocket in the metal pot itself for receiving the mercury container of the thermostat, so that the gas valve is regulated exactly in accordance with the temperature of the molten metal in the said pot and not according to the temperature of the pot mouth piece.
The drawing shows a constructional form of the invention, Figure 1 being a side elevation and Fig. 2 a plan.
The metal pot l, itself of known construction and having the known mouth piece 2, is formed, in accordance with the present invention, with a pocket 3 on one side thereof for receiving the mercury bulb or container of the gas regulator, which latter, by this construction, will be in direct contact with themolten metal and therefore effect the control of the gas aperture in accordance with the temperature of the said molten metal.
It is preferred that the pocket 3 be formed with a hole 4 at the bottom to enable the molten metal to freely circulate around the mercury container, to which latter the molten metal also has access over the top of the lip 5.
6 is the ordinary pump cylinder integral with the pot l.
Having described my invention, I declare that what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is n l. A metal pot for atypographical casting machine having a chamber for the molten metal and provided with a pocket located in said chamber so as to be surrounded by the metal therein and adapted to contain the mercury bulb of a gas regulator, said pocket having an opening leading into the chamber to establish communication therewith.
2. In a metal pot for a typographical casting machine, a pocket for containing the mercury bulb of a gas regulator, integral with the pot, and a hole in the wall of the pocket placing its interior in communication with the interior of the metal pot.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
y CARL MUEHLEISEN.
