brush holders are vertically slidable upon vthe but are vheld against disthereifroni by cross-pins Li in Ae lower ends of the arms. The parts are arranged that, when the brushes are in contact 'with the iioor, the sleeve portions oi brush holders are held somewhat abois the cross-pins l0 and the brushes and brush holders are free to rise and fall as tl pass over irregularities in the 4door. "i" grush holders are formed of comparau veavy castings, the Weight of Iwhich is sulla/wit to hold the brushes against'the door with the proper amount of 'pressure to operate effectively when the horizontal sup# ports or crossarxns 93o are driving iechanisrn.
"lwo tanks el and l2 for clean and soiled water or cleansing iuid, are mounted upon opposite sides of the upper portion of the niaehine frame or casing. il pipe i3 com rotated by the lrnunicates with the lower end of theclean water tank al and two branch pipes @el and -f lead therefrom to a pair of horizontally i c ed sprinklerpipes and el?. rvThese sprinkler pipes are provided upon thel: under sides with series or perforations to therebv spriv the Water or cleansing iiuid the "nh-e sprinkler a6 arin advance of the front set oi d the sprinkler l? in Jfront of the The sprinkler 4:6, in, 'the forro is arranged just outside the iront the Casin that the portions of ir diacent ie 'Walls oit the building closely adjacent the iloor, so that the brushes can not throw the Water or other cleaning ilu abruxt oer the door. These strips are fonemi olf rubber or other like inamrial so that tney Will not naar the floorin case they contact therewith.
l suitable scraper is provided in rear of the brushes to collect the soiled Water. rlhis scraper comprises strip l of flexible, vulcanized rubber or .other like suitable material which is secured at its upper edge to a curved, metal bar This bar provided at its ends with .upturncd guide-rods 53 which slidably engage perforated ears 54 upon the louer ends of a pair of guide sup ports The latter are fixed to and depend troni the side angle bars ld. rod 56 v68 into the soiled Water .tank 4Q..
is centrally tired to the scraper supporting; bar and ezl'tends upwardly through a per-A forated ear 57 that projects rearwardly from the end angle-bar 13. A spring 58 coiled about the rod 56 etends between the guide ear 5i' and a nut '59 threaded upon the lower end of rod 'and serves to hold the scraper bar iirm y but yieldingly in Contact With the Iioor., The upper end 60 of the rod 56 is outturned and may, if desired, be engaged by a hook (il that depends from an ear 62 on the upper portion `of the .machine trame to 'thereby hold the scraper bar out of con tact Withu the floor.' This is done when, for example, the machine is used for polishing a -Wared door.4 The curved scraper extends from side to side of the machine in rear of the brushes and serves to collect the soiled Water or cleaning fluid as the machineis pushed forward over the iioor and, because of the curved torni of the scraper, the soiled water is collected at the central portion thereof from which point it is Withdrawn 'troni the door and delivered into the tank 42 by a. Vvacuum apparatus.
lfhe air pump of the vacuum apparatus may be oi any suitable, compact type. ln the preferred iorinl oi the invention, a small rotary pump G3 is mounted. upon the upper, liront portion of the machine frame and its slci'ltv is provided with a beveled pinion 64 which meshes with the teeth of the beveled gear 28, so that the pump is driven, together with the brushes, from the motor 30. The inletzplort of the pump communicates with a pipe 65 that leads from the 'Lipper portion of a separator 66. A suction pipe G7 opens into the upper end of the separator and the inlet end of this suction pipe is arranged, aslshovvxn, adjacent the door and adjacent thlecentral portion of the scraper 5l.
ln operation, the soiled Water or cleansing fluid is *withdrawn from the licor in rear of the brushes by the vacuum produced by the air pump, the Water being drawn up through the suction pipe 67 into the separator 66. the air and passes therefrom through. a pipe This pipe leads from the lower portion of the separator 66 into the upper portion of the tank 2, and to prevent the back flow or either air or Water from the tank', the pipe is pro vided with a check valve 69. To aid in sep- A aratingz the `Water from the air, the suction pipe G7 is provided 'with a downturned end portion or elbow 70 Within the separator, as shop'n in Fig. 7. The tanks 41 and 42 are prcilerably provided With gage glasses 71 and with removable covers 72 to prevent thesplashing of Water therefrom. The flow of water .from the tank 41 to the sprinklers 46 and l? is controlled by a'valve 7 3 in the pipe i3 that is operatedby a rod It extending toY the rear of: the machine. The soiled Water The Water' is there separated from minero een be Withdrawn :trom the tank 42, through o discharge 'vulve 75:1 und si reversible elbow 'pipe 7G.
It is obvious that numerous changes muy be made 'from the details of structure Sel; 'forth without departure from the essentiuis of the invention.
