Be it known that I, JOHN .I WMARM a citizen of the United` States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county oit Kings and State `of New York, have invented a new and Improved Casserole-Frame, oil Vwhich the Ii'ollowingis a full, clear, and exact description. This invention relates tov improvements in casserole frames or similar utensils and more particularly to an improved article of the above character en'iploying an improved method ofjoining the ends of a band ot solid or reticulated material and simultaneously forming a foot and handle and rendering the band continuous in appearance. With the above and other objects .in view, the invention resides in the peculiar co1nbination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed, it being also an object to provide a device which is simple in construction, durable and eflticient.`

In carrying out my invention I am aware that it is old to produce a combined handle and foot for utensils, also to join the two ends of a-band by some connecting means `and also to anchor a combined handle and foot or a handle alone by means engaging the body or band, but I am not aware of any improvement in which `a combined handle and foot are simultaneously made, cast or molded, while at the same time anchoring or connecting the ends of a suitable length of metal to form a continuous band and at the same time covering the seam. By this means not only is the :formation of the joint facilitated and the foot and handle formed at the same time, but the seams are covered and are rendered invisible on the inside and outside and all are cast or molded in; one piece in such a manner as to appear as a part of the band itself and to be thoroughly strong and reliable.

.By way of illustration a fragmentary portion 10 oi a casserole frame or cooking utensil is shown7 it being understood that the material from which it is formedcan be oi any suitable design. I prefer, however,

to iroll the uppc' and lower edges of the` band or strip from which the latter is constructcd, as shown at 1.1, the rolls containing reinforcing or stay wires 12 so as to form beads at the top and bottom edges and to strengthen the structure as `well as to cause it to retain its shape. The wires 1Q may be suitably embedded in the metal in any other manuel' than that described without departing from the spirit ot' the invention.

Then the ends of the band are to be connected they are brought into contact as shown at 13 inl` Fig. 3 of the drawings and if the band` is not already provided with openings'snch openings are provided adjacent the ends of the connected pa'rts, as shown at 11i, and a suitable mold having been provided, depending uponithe partieular design ofthe handle and foot, a handle 15 is molded with an integral foot 16 to provide a connecting part 17 between the top and bottom portions ot the handle. The connecting portion of the metal formingthe same will pass through the openings 1+i, which may be of suitable number and size, and will pass inside of the band to form an inside reinforcing part 18 extending up as 'far as the top bead 11. At the bottom an inwardly projecting lug 19 will be formed to produce a shoulder adapted to coperate with any other number of shoulders vided inside of the band at the lower part, so as to support a dish or cooking utensil in the frame. l

handle and foot and connecting part for the extremities of the band may be varied at will Without departing from the spirit of the invention, but it is here stated that the improved method of joining the ends of the band is especially adapted for casserole frames or supports for cooking utensils when constructed of malleable metal, `but may be adapted to the cooking utensils themselves. Therefore it will be seen that the invention specifically resides in the method or device for providing a combined handle and foot and at the same time connecting the ends of the band and covering the seams both on the inside and outside,

and especially in which all of the said parts are cast or molded from one piece so that the joint is not visible and is molded into the connection.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A casserole frame, comprising a band having perforations near its extremities, and a handle, Atoot and connecting part molded on to the band to extend through the perforations and cover the co-acting ends of the band.

2. An improved casserole frame which consists of a strip with perforations and a handle cast to the frame to produce inner and outer connecting portions for the seam at the contacting ends of the strip, the material passing through the perforations to join the connecting portions and anchor the handle.

3. A casserole frame comprising a continuous strip with its ends in contact and perforations therethrough adjacent to said ends, and a handle having top and bottom portions cast integral and simultanefmslj7 with a connection between said top and bottom portions and along the inner and outer 'faces of the seam produced by said contacting ends with the material passing through the periorations to join said ends.

4:. A casserole frame comprising a strip with its ends in contact and perforated adjacent thereto, and a foot cast on the frame with inner and outer connecting portions at the meeting ends of the strip and passing through the perforations.

5. A, casserole frame comprising a strip with ends in contact and perforated adjacent thereto, a root cast on the frame with inner and outer connecting portions at the meeting ends of the strip and passing through the perfor-ations, and an inwardly projected. bead simultaneouslv formed with the foot and inner connecting portion at the bottom edge of the strip.

G. An improved article of manufacture, comprising a utensil consisting of a strip bent to form a continuous band open at its top and bottom and having beads at its top and bottom edges, the ends of the strip being brought together edge to edge and having perforations therethrough, and a1 handle comprising a grasping part cast to the band with inner and outer connecting portions covering the seam produced, the materia-l passing through the perforations to join the connecting portions and having a foot and inwardly projecting lug formed integral therewith.
