COW-TAIL HOLDER.
Application filed August 18, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEWIS J. BOWEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Driggs, in the county of Fremont and State of Idaho, have invented a new and useful Cow-Tail Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful improved cow tail holder, for holding the tail while milking the cow.
A feature of the invention is the provision of a spring leaf blade having a spring tentioned clamp at one end, similar to a clothes pin, and terminating in. a coil at the other end adapted to surround the cows rear leg adjacent the hock joint, in such a manner asto prevent the holder from detaching from the leg, or sliding below the joint, that is, when the cow attempts to detach her tail while wiggling the same.
In practical fields the minor details of construction may necessitate alterations, to which the patentee is entitled, provided the alterations fall within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 shows the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the cow tail holder detached from the cows leg.
tion of the blade 7 is formed into a coil 8,
which is adapted to surround one of the rear Specification ofLetters Patent.

legs of a cow adjacent the hock joint of the leg, in such a manner to prevent the holder from slipping down upon the leg, as shown in the drawings. The extreme end portion of the metal beyond the coil terminates in a loop 9 designed to engage the hollow of the hook joint, thereby preventing further displacement of the blade. To place the double coil upon the cows leg adjacent the hock joint, it is necessary to use two hands to complete the operation. The double coil will not only prevent the holder from slipping down upon the leg past the joint, but will also prevent lateral movement of the holder. Furthermore, the double coil will hold the holder substantially in a lateral position from the leg, when the tail is not clamped between the members 2 and 3.
Furthermore, the holder cannot be so easily detached from the log, by the same receiving a jar, that would tend to push the coils forwardly to detach from the leg.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is A cow tail holder comprising a clamp having two spring-tensioned jaws, one end of one of the jaws having a recess, a steel spring blade having one end secured in said recess, while the body portion of the blade is constructed in a double coil adapted to be coiled about one of the rear legs of a cow adjacent the hock joint and constituting means to.
prevent the holder from slipping down on the log, the extremity of the blade beyond the double coil terminating in a loop adapted to engage the hollow adjacent the hock 'oint.
J In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEWIS J. BOWEN.
