the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a double row cultivator of the type illustrated and described in the United States Letters Patent No. 1,058,788, issued to me April 15, 1913, on an application filed June 26, 1919, and has for its object a device of this type of simple, durable and eliicient construction provided with self-adjusting means for the plow beams.
A further object is to provide improved means whereby the operator can easily and readily ralse or lower the plow beams from the seat on the cultivator.
A further object is to provide a device of this class with an adjustable axle and means I for adjusting the same.
The above, and other features of novelty, advantages and capabilities of my invention will become apparent from a detailed description of the accompanying drawings in whicha Figure 1 is a plan view of a cultivator embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a longitudinal sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 an enlarged detailed view of the adjustable axle showing the means for adjusting the same.
The general construction and operation of the present device, being similar and in some respects identical with the cultivator shown in the U. S. Letters Patent above referred to, it will not, therefore,jbe necessary to go into ,a detailed description of all the parts of the device herein shown.
Referring to the accompanying drawings in detail, I have used the reference numeral 10 to designate the arched axleand 11 the wheels The axle comprises two portions which are connected at their inner ends by a sleeve 13 which sleeve is supported by two hanger bars 14 which bars are connected at their upper ends to the angle braces 15, the braces 15 being rigidly secured at their upper end to the tongues 16 directly over the axle l0.
For adjusting the axle I provide two arch members 17 which are connected'at one end by any suitable means to the axle 10 and at their opposite end pivotally connected to a link18 said parts directly overlying, the cross braces 15.
and through a suitable screw-threaded opens ing in the cross braces 15, said bolt being provided with a suitable head 21 above the link 18 designed to engage said link. Rigidly fixed to the bolt 19 is a collar 22 designed to engage the link 18 on the under side. It is obvious from this construction that by screwing the bolt 19 out the link 18 will be raised upwardly thus drawing the axle portions together and by screwing it home the headZl will engage the upper side of the link 18, draw it downwardly, and thus force the portions of the axle away from each other. Additionally, it will also be seen that this adjusting means serves to re-inforce and strengthen the axle.
Itigidly mounted on the shaft 25 are a series of bifurcated arms 26 which arms are slidably connected at their free end to the links 27 which links are connected with the plow beams 28. The links 27 are, near their upper end, screw-threaded and provided with nuts 31 and 32 for retaining the compression springs 33 which springs are designed to engage the bifurcated end of the arm 26. By means of this connection it will be seen that the plow beams 28 are permitted to adjust themselves when being operated in the field.
Usually three draft animals are used in operating my cultivator one of which travels between the tongues to eliminate the side draft (which is present as when the animals are traveling unevenly) I provide a brace 34: rigidly secured at each end to the tongues 16 to which is pivotally connected an evener 35 adapted to be connected to suitable double trees 36 as shown.
Various changes and modifications may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of my invention. as defined in the patent claims;

By adjusting the. lever 30, the plow beams 28 may be raised What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States,is:
1. In a device ofthe class described, the combination of a wheeled carrying-frame, an adjustable axle for said frame andmeans for adjusting said axle, said means comprising two links connected at one end to said axle which links extend upwardly and inwardly over the frame and connected at their opposite ends to an adjusting means designed to raise and lower said links at their inner ends for the purpose set forth.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a wheeled carrying-frame, anadjustable axle for said frame and means Copiesof this patent maybe obtained for for adjusting said axle, said means comprising two links connected at one end to said axle, which links extend upwardly and inwardly over the frame and are pivotally connected at their opposite ends to a collar and means operatively connecting with said collar for raising and lowering the same.
