To all whom it may concern i T Be it known that I,*LUTHER .B. THOMAS,
signed to dispense material in measured quantities, the dispensing means being simple in construction, easily adjustable for holding different 'quantities, and having means combined therewith for preventing material from choking the apparatus and interfering with the proper operation of the arts. p \Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

A coiled spring 11 is secured at one end to the back wall of each channel and extends loosely through the corresponding opening 10, the other end of the spring being secured to the inner surface of the front end of the follower. This 1 spring 11 serves to retract the follower and element is extended forwardly beyond the front of the receptacle as indicated at 21 and a lever 22 can be fulcrumed in this extension so as to extend upwardly therefrom. A rod 23 is arranged in the extension and 1s plvotally connected to the lever 22 and to the adjustable. block 24 whichcan. be hollow and fits against the side walls 8.
This block also extends throughout the depth of the measuring element. The upper end of the lever has ahandle 25 and a spring pressed dog26, said dog being adapted to engage a toothed segment 27 mounted on the extension 21. Thus it will be seenthat by disengaging the dog from the segment, lever 22 can be swung about its fulcrum so as to move the block 21 toward or from the follower 9. Metal strips are to be used where large cereals or the like are to be cut to prevent choking-while felt strips are particularly desirable where small; cereals are to be dispensed and it is not necessary to cut any of the material in order to prevent choking or clogging.
What is claimed is:-
A dispensing apparatus of the class de scribed including a receptacle, a channel thereunder, said receptacle discharging into the channel, an outlet spout communicating with the channel, a measuring device slidably mounted in each channel, said device including side walls, a follower connected to the walls at their rear ends, a block slidably mounted between the walls, a handle pivot-ally connected to and adapted to slide the device, means operated by the handle for adjusting the block toward or from the follower, and means for locking the handle against movement relative to the device.
