PERCIVAL HALL JONES AND LEONARD MARCUS JONES, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
LOOSE-LEAF BINDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Nov. 24, 1914..
Application filed May 22, 1914. Serial No, 840,230.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, PERGIVAI. HALL J ones, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and residing at 15 Little Sutton street, London, England, and LEONARD Masons Jones, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and residing at a7 Turney road, Dnlwich, London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Loose Leaf Binders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved loose-leaf binder and comprises two rod or tube like members, a series of straps attached to covers and adapted to fit or work in circumferential recesses or depressions formed in said members and so form with said recesses or depressions hinges whereby the members have relative rotatory movement with respect to the covers, a series of filing posts carried by one of said members and adapted to pass through holes formed in other said member, means for allowing the loose leaves to be removed, inserted, or changed without removing either cover, and means for locking the filing posts to said members receiving the free ends thereof.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a part view in plan of a loose leaf binder, Fig. 2 is a view in end elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a view in plan-partly in section-of the members detached from their covers.
Throughout the views similar parts are marked with like letters of reference.
The two members a b areeach hinged to a cover 00 00 the member 6 carries a series of filing posts 0 c and the other member a has a series of holes through which pass the free ends of the filing posts. The members a b are of cylindrical tabular form and are secured to said covers 00 by means of any suitable number of straps (1 adapted to fit in or engage with circumferential depressions in said members a b and soaform with said depressed parts hinges whereby the members have relative rotatory movement with respect to the covers. The filing posts 0 0 ber-are adapted to be lengthened by auxiliary posts 0 adapted to screw into the fixed posts 0 0 These auxiliary posts 0 are for the purpose of accommodating more leaves and also to allow the covers to being sepaby one of said be any desired num-.
rated sufficiently far to allow the loose leaves to be removed, inserted, or changed without removing either cover. To enable auxiliary posts 0 to be conveniently employed for the latter purpose, the top cover as is slotted at m to enable the cover to be turned entirely back or allow the binder to be opened flat. The other member a, which has holes through which pass the free ends of said posts, is provided with one or more longitudinally arranged internal bars adapted to be operated by a screw or the like so as to engage the filing postsand so lock them to the member carrying said locking bars. The preferred arrangement is that illustrated wherein a bar d" is employed having a screwthrcaded portion d adapted to engage a corresponding thread in the end of the tubular member a. This bar (Z is arranged to be operated by a key, the barrel of which is formed to correspond to the end d of the bar which may be of triangular, square, or other suitable shape in cross section. On screwing up, this bar cl directly engages the filing post carried by the post a and forces it against a sliding bar cl carried within the member a, which bar engages at its other end with the other filing post carried by the post 0 causing it also to be locked to the member a.
What we claim as our invention and de sire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A loose-leaf binder comprising two rod like members, a series of straps adapted to be attached to covers and adapted to fit or work in circumferential recesses formed in said members and so form with said recesses hinges whereby the members have relatively rotatory movement with respect to the covers, a series of filing posts carried members and adapted to pass through holes formed in the other member, and means for locking the filing posts to said member receiving the free ends thereof, as set forth.
2.. A loose-leaf binder comprising in combination two rod-like members, a plurality of straps adapted to be attached to covers and adapted to work in circumferential recesses formed in said members and so form with said recesses hinges whereby the members have relatively rotatory movement with respect to the covers, filing posts carried by one of said members and passing through holes formed in the other member, auxiliary filing posts attached to said filing posts to. In testimony whereof We afik our signaenable the covers to be separated wlthout retures 1n the presence of two wltnesses.
moval, slots formed in one of said covers to PEROIVAL HALLJONES.
allow for the passage of the auxiliary posts LEONARD MARCU S JONES. therethrough, and means for locking the WVitnesses:
filing posts to said member receiving the GEORGE W. DAVEY,
free ends thereof, as set forth. WILLIAM F. WHITE.
