CENTERING-FORCM FOR CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION.

Be it known that I, IVILLIAM W. VVILsoN, a citizen of the United States, and'residing in Boston, county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, (whose post-oliice address is 15` Exchange street, Boston, Massachusetts) of a floor slab embodying certain featuresof the invention; Fig. 2 is-a section in ele vation on the line l:2--2 in- Fig. 1, showing the metal forms removed, but the wooden forms still in position; Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional elevation showingboth the wood and metal forms in place; Fig. Llis a plan View of :one of t e metal panel forms; and Fig. 5 is a Vdetail in' sectional elevation showing the variation in depth in the intermediate beams which can be obtained through the use ofthe illustrated metal form.
Referring to the drawings, I have there shown in Figs, l and 2 a monolithic floor and ceiling construction having certain advantageous features not only'in itself but also the facility with, which it can be molded. The floor slab shown 'is supported between'the main girders l, one of which is arranged on each v,side of the slab, the girders at their intersections being supported upon the molded or other columns 2.
The floor portion 3 which is preferably molded simultaneously with the girders l has its underside subdivided into panels 4f and has formed thereon relatively smaller intersecting beams 5 which extend between opposite girders and border upon and de line or form the said panels. Because of this construction the iioor slab is so stiffened by the small beams that the same strength can be obtained from a lesser amount of concrete and from a lesser depth of beam .and girder than in the constructions heretofore prevailing, leaving a material gain in the clearance space from the floor below to the ceiling above. Such a. ceiling can be readily formed by means of the removable metal\ molds, hereinafter described, such molds having however features of advantage which render them useful and advantageous in molding operations other than thoseconnected with the specific form of Y ceiling construction described.v
In molding the above-described 'ceiling each panel thereof is preferably formed bv means of a removable metal form, the lattei' I being closed at the top by the piece 6, herein rectangular and square in shape, such top being provided with the inclinedside walls 7 extending continuously around said top piece. y
A great fault of many metal forms heretofore used for molding concrete has been either their;` extreme weight, or, when formed of thin sheet metal, a lack of sti- .I
ness' and a tendency to distort after a short usage.` The continuous side walls vof the disclosed form, however, impart thereto a stiffness and rigidity which obviates this diiiiculty, while permitting its construction out. of relatively light material.
In order to stiii'en the flat top of the form, whileleaving a smooth sheet metal forming vface or surface thereto, there .is herein provided for such top piece stiflening means on the inside face thereof, said stiffening means comprising one or more rib-like members S, preferably in the form of a light T-iron.
Adjacent Vpanel forms are so arranged with theirl inclined sides converging in proximity to each other that such vsides form the beams y5, the bottom of the beams-being formed -by means such as the wooden strip or othermember 9 bridging the space between the sides of adjacent forms. Such` strip is supported in any suitable Way, as upon the temporary posts'l() arranged one at each beam intersection.
