PUMP.
Application ied July 15, 1912.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JASPER F. BULLARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Loachapoka, in the county of Lee, State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pumps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in pumps, and more particularly to a pump having double cylinders.
The invention has for its object to so construct a pump of this type that the same may be easily operated and will pump a continuous stream of water.
A further object of the invention is to so construct a pump of this kind that the same may be moved from place to place and may be positioned in proper respect to a source of water for pumping the same.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the pump. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the pump. Fig. 4 is a similar View taken at right angle toFig. 3. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 5 5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a fragmentary side elevation of one of the eccentrics. Fig. 7 is a sectional view on line 7-7 of Fig. 2. Fig. 8 is a perspective view of one of the supports.
Referring to the drawing, the numerals 1 and 2 designate supports, each of which consists of legs 3 which are connected intermediate their ends by a bar 4, said bar being provided with perfor-ations 5 and through which securing devices are passed to engage the double bored cylinder 6. The upper ends of the legs 3 are connected by bars 7, said bars being provided with bearings 8 in which are journaled the opposite ends of the shaft 9, said shaft having a crank handle 10 formed at one end, adjacent which is fixed a fly wheel 12. Fixed to the shaft 9 and arranged in spaced rela- Speciiication of Letters Patent.

tion are eccentrics 13, the peripheries of` which are provided with grooves 14 in which 1s supported the bands 15, said bands being provided with extensions 16, the purpose of which will appear later.
From the construction thus far it will be seen that the cylinder' 6 will be supported above the ground a sufficient distance so that the entire device may be moved from place to place without interference with the cylinder in any way. |The cylinder 6 is provided with a pair of bores 17 and in which reciprocate pistons 18 having connected therewith piston rods 19 the upper ends of which are bifurcated and between the furcations 20 thereof is secured pivotally the lower ends of the links 21, the upper ends of which are similarly connected to the eX- tensions 1G, whereby when the crank 10 is grasped and operated the shaft 9 will turn and impart reciprocatory movement to the pistons 18.
Having communication with the lower end of the bores 17 of the cylinder are nipples 22 having connected thereto transversely arranged pipe sections 23 which are in turn connected to the pipe sections 24rwhich are arranged in parallel relation and have their ends provided with angularly disposed sections 25 which are in turn connected to an inlet pipe 26, said pipe being provided with valves 27, which operate to permit water to be drawn into the bores of the cylinder upon the up stroke of the piston and will prevent water from being forced backward in the pipe sections upon the down stroke of the pistons, the water acted upon by the down stroke of the piston being forced outwardly through the pipe sections 28, which have communication through the cylinder with the bores 17 at a point above the upper ends of the nipples 22, said sections 28 being connected to pair of parallel arranged pipe sections 29, the outer ends of which are provided with angularly disposed pipe sections 30 the meeting ends of which are provided with an outlet pipe 31, through which the water is forced to its point of use. The pipe sections communicating with the outlet pipe 31 are provided with a check valve, the same being designated by the numerals 83, and operate to permit the water to be forced outwardly through the sections, and will prevent Water from entering the bores 17 of the Cylinder upon the upstroke of the piston.
l.Vliet is claimed is:-
A force pump Comprising a. cylindrical member havin@ two longitudinally extending parallel bores open at their upper ends and apertures in their lower ends, pipes oommunicating with said apertures and oonnected to a. common exhaust pipe, a bifureeted supply pipe Communicating With said bores above the apertures in their lower ends, supports for said Cylindrical members Comprising; inverted U-sheped members secured to seid cylindrical members et their bight portions, upwardly extending inverted G. W. SIMMs, S. R. ARIN.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner oi Eateuts.
