To all whom it may concern tainers and Burners, of which the follow ing is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for containing disinfectant material and has particular reference to a device which combines in one structure the functions of both a container and a stove, in which the combined disinfectant material may be burned or "aporized.
The object of my invention is to provide a device which may be arranged to serve either as a completely closed container or as a ventilated combustion device for disinfectant material.
My invention consists in a device comprising several associated members, which when arranged in one relation form a contalmng vessel adapted to completely inclose the disinfectant material and when arranged in another relation form a burner or stove adapted to expose the material in such manner that it may be readily burned or vaporized without danger of igniting the object upon which the device rests.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which:

My device as illustrated in the drawings comprises three telescopically related members 2, 3- and 4. The member 2 is the con-.
tainer proper and is adapted to fit telescopically within the members 3 and 4 which serve as covers therefor, said member 2 is open at one end and is closed at the opposite end by means of a Wire grating 5. When the members are assembled to form a closed container as illustrated in Fig. 1 the open end of the member 2 is inserted within the casing member 3, and is closed thereby, said member 8 having a head 6 in one end. The cover member 4 fits telescopically upon the opposite end of the containing vessel 2 and serves as a cover therefor. The grating 5 rests upon and is held in position within the member 2 by an annular ring 7 which has its outer edge turned over and interlocked with the wall of the member 2, said grating o serves as an open support or grate for the disinfectant material, when the device is in the form of a stove, permitting air to reach the material from beneath for purposes of combustion.
I have found that a disinfectant material comprising a. foraminous compound of sulfur and coke, in comparatively large fragments, burns satisfactorily in my novel device, and when such a material is used the perforate bottom 5 is preferably formed of woven wire having a mesh of substantially half an inch.
As illustrated in Fig. 1, when the members are assembled in closed position to form a container, the member 2 is inverted, the grating 5 being at the upper end and the lower end being closed by the casing 3 into which the member 2 has been inserted. When in this position the container is closed at the upper end by the cover member 4 which fits telescopically thereon. To arrange the device as a stove or salamander as illustrated in Fig. 2, the cover member 4 is first removed and placed with its open end upon the floor in position to receive the other parts of the device and serves as an insulating chamber to prevent any heat of the burning material from being transmitted to the floor upon which the device is placed. The device is then inverted and the casing member 3 is removed from the vessel 2. The casing member is then inverted and placed upon the lid or cover 4 with its open end up. The container proper 2 is then inserted into the open end of the casing 3 and is prevented from dropping too far or in other words is held in its proper relative position by means of a circumferential rib 8 formed on the wall thereof, a short distance from the grating 5, and which engages the upper edge of the casing 3. The wall of the casing 3 is provided with draft 0 enings 9 adjacent its open end and are pre erably far enough removed therefrom so obstructed by the inserted end of the vessel 2. The casing 3 serves not only to hold the container proper in raised position and permit the circulation of air therethrough but also serves to receive and retain any of the burning material which might drop through the grating 5. chamber 3 also serves to permit the ignition of the disinfectant material from beneath as it is obvious that a preliminary fire may be provided in said chamber before the vessel 2 is placed thereon, or that a burning match or other ignition device may be inserted through the draft openings after the vessel 2 has been placed in position upon the chamber 3. i
The burner or stove which is provided when the various members of the device are assembled in one position, in a practical sense, consists of a ventilated combustion device comprising a casing having three superposed chambers or compartments each of which performs its own particular function. It will be noted that when the container is in its closed position, and easing 3 cover all of the outer surface of the member2, except the rib 8 and thus present a substantially smooth surface to receive the wrapper or label 10. The label completely surrounds the body of the container closing the openings 9 and sealing the casing 3 and cover 4 to ether upon-the member 2, and thus reventin the openin of the container wit out the estruction o the label.
While my novel device is adapted to burn or vaporize a disinfectant material, such as that mentioned hereinbefore, it is also adapted to burn incense or other material which it is desired should be restricted in its combustion, in which case I make use of a slightly modified form of the invention as illustrated in Fig. 4. In this modified form the perforate bottom 5 of the containing vessel 2 consists of a plate 11 having comparatively small perforations l2 and is raised consider ably above the lower end 13 of said vessel 2, which is provided adjacent its lower end with draft openings 14. The openings 9 in the casing members 3 are formed, in this instance, near the upper end thereof and may be adjusted to register with the openings 14, or the two members may be adjusted in relation to each other, either vertically or circumferentially to produce any proportion of draft opening desired from the maximum area of the draft openings 9 down to substantially no opening at all.
Although I sometimes depend upon the closeness of the fit between the ventilating chamber 3 and the perforate end of the that they will not be The casing or ventilating the cover member 4 chamber 2, when these two parts are arranged to form a ventilated combustion device, to retain the container 2 in its elevated position, I prefer to provide the container 2 with the external circumferential rib 3 against which the upper end of the chamber 3 is adapted to contact when the two members are arranged as shown in Fig. 2, and thus retain the chamber 2 in its proper relative position.
As many modifications of my invention will readily suggest themselves to one skilled in the art, I do not limit or confine my invention to the gpecific structures herein shown and describe Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A combined container and combustion device for disinfectant material comprising a containing member having a perforate bottom, a draft member having perforate side walls, and a cover member, all telescopically related to each other in such manner that when assembled together in one relation they form a receptacle having a closed space of substantially equal dimensions with the dimensions of the device and capable of being substantially filled with disinfectant material and when assembled in another telescopic order they constitute a ventilated combustion device.
2. A minimum dimensioned combined container and burner for a requisite quantity of disinfectant material comprising a cylindrical containing chamber whose capacity is substantially equal to the volume of the device, said chamber having one end open'and the other end perforate, a relatively deep outer shell telescopically fitting the chamber closed at one end, open at the other end and having perforate side walls and adapted when placed upon the open end of the chamber to close same and when placed upon the perforate end of the chamber to form a ventilated draft chamber, and a cover adapted telescopically to fit upon the perforate end of said chamber to close same when the several parts are arranged to form a closed container.
3. A combined container and burner for a requisite quantity of disinfectant material comprising a cylindrical containing chamber the containing capacity of which is substantially equal to the volume of the device when closed for shipping purposes, one end of such chamber being open and the other provided with a plurality of relativel small openings, and two telescopically fitting covers, one being relatively deep and provided with openings in its side wall, the other being shallow and adapted to cover the perforate end of the chamber, said relatively deep cover being adapted to cover the open end of the chamber when placed thereon and adapted to telescopically engage the perforate end of the chamber to support it with its open end upward when the parts are arranged in the form of a burner, the said openings in the" nd and open at the other end, in combinatlon with telescopic covering means provided with draft ppenings and adapted to cooperate with the container to "close the same when used as a shippin rece tacle and to hold the container 1n e evate position and to admit air beneath the grate when the device is used as a stove.
A combined shipping receptacle and stove for disinfectant material having a disinfectant containing capacity substantially equal in volume to the volume of the device when closed for shipping purposes and comprising an open ended shell having a grate at one end and adapted to be filled with disinfectant material, in combination with telescopic closure means having draft openings and adapted when closing the shell to reduce the device to minimum dimensions and when arranged in the form of a stove to hold the shell in elevated position and admit air beneath the grate.
(3. A combined container and stove for disinfectant material, comprising a receptacle having a containing capacity substantially equal to the volume of the device when closed for shipping purposes, said receptacle having a grate at one end and being open at the other end, in combination with telescopic closure members, one thereof having draft openings in its wall and adapted to hold the receptacle in elevated position and to admit air beneath the grate when the device is used as a stove.
7. A disinfectant receptacle provided with a grate at one end and open at the other end and capable of being substantially filled with disinfectant material, in combination with telescopic cover members, one thereof having ventilating openings and adapted to hold the receptacle in elevated position for burner purposes, said cover members being adapted, when the device is closed for shipping purposes, to provide a closed containing package substantially of the dimensions of the receptacle.
