O, the main bolt. v
D, the sliding-plate attached 'to the. bolt, and having a Stud or stop F projecting therefroln.
I f shows two gnides projecting Outward fronl tlle inside of the shell A, one above and one below the bolt C, which serve as guidos to the'holt C in its passage forward' and' backward, and also to 'secure 'the splings R; A
E is a V-shaped bearing upon the under side of tlle bolt C, upon which is placed and slides the plate D, which is grooved. in its upper side to eorrespond with the V on the bolt'C.
G and g repl'esent Spiral spl'ings.
G is a pull Spring, with one end fast to a projeotion on the bolt Q alldthe other end secured to tlle shell A, by means of which Spring the bolt O and theplate D, with Stud or Strip F, is thrown outward in .position for boltillg. H shows the point at which a knob is to ho attached to the bolt C, and
i H', a slot in the shell A, running parallel with the bolt C, for the pnrpose of allowing the knob to slide the bolt C backward and forward without the aid of a key. D is a guide-pin or shaft passing through the projeotion c' o' on the bolt- C, thence through the plate D, Spring g, and into'the neck c o of the bolt O, by means of whicll guide-pin or shaft d the plate D and Spring g are lleld in their relative positions, as shown. I showsthe hole or trnnnionlguide through or ill the shell A, alld N, a pill pl'ojeeting from the inside of the sllell, upon which are pivoted the level's or tumblers (which may be one or more) when in their proper position. Figure 2 shows tlle bolt C thrown back by lneans of the knob, with tllo plate D in position as held by the tumbler or level' O when in use, sprillg G elongated and Spring gcontraeted or compressed, in readiness to throw out the holt O the instant the knob is released. I
.Figure 3Shows the bolt O and plate D thrown back by. means of thetrunnion J, with Spring G elongated or in position to tllrow out, the bolt O and plate D when released from the trllnnion J, which is R to hold the plate D in its'ontward position byv means of its pl'ojection or stull F passing through the tumbler ol' 1ever O, and being'coniined in the notch o so that the-bolt C cannot be tllrown back from the -front oroutside without the aid of the proper key; V
Figure shows the shell A, the face-plate B, pin' N, and tl'unnon J in their proper position, With bolt C and plateD'thrown back, and held in position by means ot' the Stud F passing 'through the notch o o in the tumbler O, which is forced downwal'd by the spring R.
Figure 6 shows the tllmbler or 1ever O', withslot x and notches o and o o and Spring R, which serve to' hold it in place.
,Figure 7 shows the tnnlbler P with its slot x and notch o and Spring R, which is in common use, and may or may not beused in l'ny impl'oved lock.
Figure 8 shows a planof the key S, used hy Ine in my improved lock or lateh. The key is tel'lned a plate-key, and is provided with a rib or enlal'gelnel'lt nponolle side only, by means of which I am enabled to make both right and left patterns,
Figure 9 gives a Sectional view of the bolt O and sliding plate D, with bearing E and stud F, guide-v pin or shaftll, and arm L.
Figure 10 is a front view of key-hole. Having thlls deseribed my invfention, lVhat I cla-im as new, and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, isl. ll`he combination of the bolt O, sliding plate D, bearing E, and guide-pin (Z, when constr'uoted to operate substantially as and for the pnrpose` set fol'th.
