, useful improvements in syringes, and is fully described and explained in the speciiication and shown in the accompanying drawings, in whichz Figure l is an elevation of my improved syringe, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough.
Referring to the drawings, Buis a tubular body provided with a lateral extension l. The front end of the body 3 is normally closed by a head 5 of generally conical form which is adapted to enter the rectum. The body is provided at its forward end with a bead 6 to prevent its accidental displacement. The rear of the body is closed by a centrally perforated plug 7.
The head 5v is centrally perforated for the passage of fluid therethrough and isconnected to a tube 8 extending backward `through the hollow body 3 and out through the central perforation in the plug 7. The
rPhe operation ofA the device will be'reada ily apparent. The syringeis placed in position in the usual manner and theluidto be administered is passed in through the central tube 8 which, in practice, is connected to a rubber tube, as shown, for the ypurpose of conducting thereto the iuid.
W'hen the requisite amount of fluid has been administered, the head is drawn back so as toclear the entire body and connect it with the lateral extension 4. The contents of the bowels will then pass out through the body 3 and extension 4 and into the tubing connected therewith. If desired, the tube connected to the extension 4 may run to a suc Specification of Letters Patent. "Application mea Marcil 25, 1914.` semina. 827,142.

tionchamber, so as to accelerate the evacuation. In this case the suction may be controlled by means of a perforation 12 at the rear end of the body through which air may be admitted, when desired, or which may be kept closed by the fingers. If the natural expulsivemovements of the bowel-muscles are relied upon, this perforation may be omitted. r
The present device is particularly desirable because, by its use, it is possible to vdispense with the use of a bed-pan in many cases, a complete yevacuation being possible through the tube. Furthermore, in the case of rectal feeding, they large intestine canv first be washed out and the material evacuated carried away and the supply of fluid I claim asnew and desire to secure Letters Patent l. outer body havingja passage therethrough, an exit opening from the side thereof, a
project therefrom and'tobe drawn into the same to clear vthe passage from the end thereof to the exit-opening, and a connection extending within the body for conducting fluid to the head.
2. A syringe having, in combination, an outer body provided with a lateral exiteXtension, a head normally projecting from the frontv of the body and adapted to be withdrawn into the same, and a tubular connection lying within the body and con-- necting with said head. Y
