WILLIAM HTJ'KE, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
BASKET-FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July 31, 1913. S eria1No,782,378.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, W'ILLIAM Home, a citrzen of the United States, residing at 1007 1014 South Seventh street, St. Louis, in the State of ll Iissour'i, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Basket-Frames, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
I My invention relates to the weaving of baskets and has for its object to provide a device by which the weaving of. a basket may be facilitated and the basket kept true to form and size. I
With these and' other objects in view my invention consists in the construction and combination of: elements hereinafter described and claimed. y
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of a device embodying my invention showing it in expanded form. Fig. 2
is a similar view but showing the device in contracted form. Flg. 3 1s a vertical sectional view oi the device as shown in Fig. 1;
and Fig. i is a top plan view of the device as shown in Fig. 1.
In the drawings 1 indicates a bottom plate which may be round, oval, square, oblong or of any form which the bottom of the basket is to have. At suitable intervals about the periphery of this bottom plate are hinged arms 2 preferably ofwood bent to the shape which the basketis intended to have. At the center of the bottom plate 2 is erected a rod 3 on which is slidingly mounted a sleeve 1 provided with a set screw 5 for holding it at any elevation desired. To a plate 6 carried by this sleeve are pivoted the inner ends of radial arms 7 corresponding in number with the arms 2 and having their outer ends pivoted to these arms.
In the use of the devlce the bottom of the basket is first woven of the usual splints, rods orosiers and the device is then placed with the bottom plate resting on the woven bottom. The arms-2 am then expanded, if they have not alreadybeen expanded, and the weaving of the sides of the basket is proceeded with, the arms 2 determining the shape and sue to be glvento it and serving rammed Nov. 10, 1914. T
to proceedrapidly and accurately with'the work. When the basket is completed the. arms Q'are collapsed as shown in Fig.2 by
loosening the set screw 5 and drawing the sleeve upward on the rod 3. The device may then be readily withdrawn from the basket. 1
I, It will of course be understood that I do not desire to be limited'to the'particular construction and arrangement shown.
Having thusdescribed my invention what I claim is: 1. A devlce for use 1n weaving baskets comprising a solid bottomplate having its outer face unobstructed, a series of arms piv-o otally secured thereto and means for holding thelr free ends 1n expanded position comprising radial arms, a sleeve to which the radial arms are pivoted and a central rod mounted on the inner face of the bottom plate on which the sleeve isarrangedto slide.
2A. device for us 'iin weaving baskets comprising a solid bottom plate having its outer face unobstructed, a series of arms-pivotally secured thereto and means for holding;
their free ends in expanded positioncom- 1 prising radial arms, a sleeve to which the as a form which enables the basket weaver radial arms are pivoted and a central rod i I mounted on the inner face of the bottom plate on which the sleeve is arranged to slide and means for locking the sleeveon the rod.
comprising a solid bottom plate havingits outer face unobstructed, a series ofarms piv--- otally secured thereto'at one end, and means for holding their freeends in adjusted position comprising radial arms, a sleeve adjustably mounted on a central rod to which'the 3. A device for use in weaving baskets'nf;
radial arms are pivoted, said rod being,
the rod.
4. In adevice for use in weaving mounted on the inner face of the bottom," J plate'and extendingto the top of the frame I. I
only, and means for locking the sleeve on p i p baskets,
a solid bottom plate having its outer face rigidly to the inner face of the bottom 10 unobstructed, a series of arms pivotally plate, substantially as descrlbe'd.
I mounted thereon at a distance one from the This specification signed and witnessed other, a series of radial arms secured at one this eighth day of July A. D. 1913.
' end to the free ends of the first mentioned arms and at their other ends to a sleeve, the WILLIAM HUKE' sleeve mounted for slidable adjustment on In the presence of M a central rod extending longitudinally C. R. SWENEY,
through the device and mounted at one end I MATT J. SCHERER.
