To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LANDON H. STEPHEN- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a safety razor and the principal object of the invention is to provide" a safety razor having an improved type of holding frame which is so constructed that the various parts will be securely held in the desired position when the blade is placed in the frame.
Another object of the 1nvent1on is to so construct the frame that the blade will be prevented from slipping after being put in place and to also so construct the frame that the blade guard cannot move from a set position upon the blade.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the frame that the blade can easily be put in place or removed.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved razor in a closed position; Fig. 2 is .a side elevation of the razor in an open position; Fig. 3 is a plan viewofthe razor; Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blade; Fig. 5 is a 'transversesection taken along the line 5-5 of Fig. 1; and, Fig. 6' is a side elevation of the clip which holds the blade. The supporting plate 10which forms the body portion of the frame is'provided at one end with the hinge-ears lland has its opposite end portion formed into a handle 12 upon which there is pivotally mounted the U-shaped member, 13. The end of the clamping strip fits into a cut out portion formed in the handle 12 and isheld in the closed position by a sleeve 18 which is slidably mounted upon the handle.
A clip 19 is pivotally mounted between strip of -'resilient material which is bent intermediate its length to form the two jaws 20. One of thesejaws 20 carries a pin 21 and the other jaw is provided with a pressed out pocket 22. This pin and pocket serve to prevent the razor blade from moving pivotally between the two jaws.
The razor blade 23 is provided with a neck 24 which fits between the jaws of the clamp 19 and is provided with a notch 25 to engage the pin 21 and with a bead 26 which fits into the pocket 22. The outer end portion of the blade-is provided with wings 27 which extend upon opposite sides of the hinge-ears 1150 that transverse movement-of the blade upon the body portion 10 will be prevented. Pins 28 are carried by the body portion and pass through the openings 29 formed in the blade so that when the blade is resting upon the body portion with the pins passing through theop'enings and the wings 27 positioned upon opposite sides of the hinge-ears, it will be impossible for theblade to move either longitudinally or transversely.
A guard 30 is provided with a neck 31 which fits into a socket piece 32 pivotally mounted .between the pivot cars 15. The side jaws of this socket piece 32'pass upon opposite sides of the clip 19 as shown in Fig. 5 so that when the guard is in the closed position independent transverse movement between the guard and clip 19 will be prevented. This ard 30 rests flat a ainst the central portion of the blade 23 with the pin 28 passing through openings formed in the guard and it will thus be seen that the pins 28 not only prevent transverse and longi- 'tudinal movement of the blade, but also prevent movement of the guard. The side portions 33 of the guard are bent as shown in Fig. 2 and are slotted to form teeth as shown in Fig. 1 so that the blade 23 may cut properly. It is, of course, obvious that any other shape of guard which will fit the razor and clip could be used in place of the one shown.
When this razor is to be used, the securing strip 16 is first opened and the guard and clip are then raised so that the razor blade can be connected with the clip and then swung down upon the body portion 10. The guard is then swung downwardly upon I the blade and the securing strip 16 is pressed flat against the guard and handle 12 so that,
the locked position, .the securing strip will hold the sleeve in placeby frictional en: gagement and thus the sleeve prevented from slipping out of a locked position when the razor is in use. After the razor has been used, the sleeve 18 s moved to release the clamping strip and this canvthe n be raised to an open position so that the guard can be raised and the blade removed from the clip 19. The various parts of the razor can then be thoroughly cleaned and also removed and can then be again put together and put away for safe keeping. A razor has therefore been provided which is very simple in construction and is so constructed that the blade and guard will be securely held in the desired position when the razor is in use.
If it is desired to strap the blade, the blade is moved to one side of the longitudinal center of the frame with the pins 28 passing through the openings 29 formed in the side portions of the blade instead of the openings 29 in the center of the blade. The cutting edge of the blade will then extend beyond the plate 10 a suflicient distance to permit it to engage a strap. The guard will be removed when stroppingthe blade.

A razor comprising a body portion having one end portion constituting a handle, pivot ears extending from said body portion adjacent the handle, a clip pivotally connected with said pivot ears, a blade removably connected with said clip and resting against said body portion, pins carried by said body portion and passing through openings formed in said blade, hinge ears at the outer end of said body portion passing through a slot'formed in said blade, a guard pivotally connected with said pivot ears and engaging'said blade, said guard being provided with openings through which said pins pass, and a clamp strip pivotally mounted between said hinge ears and extending alongsaid guard with its inner end removably connected with said handle.

A razor comprising a body portion, pivot ears carried by said body portion, a clip pivotally connected at said pivot ears, said clip being formed from a single strip of resilient material bent intermediate its length to provide clamping jaws, one of said jaws being provided with a blade engaging pin and the other jaw provided with a pocket, a blade provided with a neck extending between the clamping jawsv of said clip and pro vided with a notch engag-' ing said pin and with a bead fitting into said pocket, a guard for engaging said blade, and a clamping strip for engaging said guard to hold the same in engagement withsaid blade.
