CABINET-CALENDAR.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, So'ornWnLL WInLMAn, a citizen of the "United States, res1d1ng at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cabinet-Galendars, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved device for keeping a record of business, man ual, or professional work that is to be performed at some advance date so that on each calendar day of the year, the person 111 charge can. make reference to and readily locate not only the subject matter oi such. Work but the date or dates on which the work is promised and all matters pertaining thereto.

The device of my invention is adapted for use in repair shops of various kinds. Where numerous small orders are taken in and promised on certain dates and where such data is necessarily kept separate irom actual bookkeeping records, and in this connection the device of my invention serves advanta geously in enabling the proprietor of such an establishment to keep a full and complete record of his business so that an outs1de bookkeeper can refer to such record and accurately post and keep the books. l

Referring more particularly to Figs. 1 to 5, 1 designates a desk of any desired form on which my improved cabinet is built in and preferably disposed upon the desk top 2. The improved cabinet is designated at 3 and may comprise top and bottom walls 4 and 5, respectively, with the space between divided by an intermediate wall 6. These walls, pro vided with vertical end walls 7 and I also provide intermediate walls 8 to provide a compartment adapted to receive a key index means in the form of a book 9. Additional partition walls are arranged to divide the cabinet into a plurality of compartments or pigeon-holes equal in number to the number of calendar months of the year, and said holes are designated as 10 to 21, inclusive, each pigeon-hole having means for marking or being lettered with the name of a calendar month. i l

Each pigeon-hole is provided with a plu-. rality cit paddle boardsor plates equaling in number, at least, the number of calendar days of the month in which the particular set of plates is disposed. In order to provide for protection from dustand dirt, I may supply an additional plate for each inonths set of plates,.in addition to one for each of the days in such month. These plates are intended to function as day division means to receive notation sheets there between and to maintain such sheets in their proper day location.

Referring more particularly to the construction shown, each plate is provided with a day tab 22, on which is printed or otherwise displayed the number of the day of the month which said plate is to represent. In Fig. at, a plate is indicated at 23, being of rectangular form with the tab 22 projecting conspicuously from one corner to facilitate visual location and manual manipulation thereof.

In order to retain the plates in their pigeon-holes and also to permit movement thereof laterally therein, means is provided which may consist of rods 24 disposed centrally of the depth of and extending trans versely of the pigeon-holes on which the plates are adapted to be threaded. The plates are provided with projecting lips 25 having apertures therein through which the rods are adapted to project and the upper intermediate and lower walls of the cabinet are recessed at 26, to accommodate said rods and lips, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The monthly pigeon-holes are proportioned so as to provide ample room to shift the day plates laterally and either inspect or withdraw notation sheets from between the same. In this form of my invention the plates are arranged vertically in the pigeon-holes and are adaptedto be shifted horizontally, the day tabs 22, projecting from the cabinet as shown in Fig. 2 in an accessible manner.

In the form of my invention shown in Figs. 6 to 8, a cabinet 27 is provided which is adapted to be disposed on a table or bench, and twelve compartments or pigeonholes designated as 28 to 39,inclusive, represent the calendar months by being suitably lettered or marked as shown. A compartment or pigeon-hole 40, serves to house the key-index book 9. The plates, in this form of my invention, are horizontally disposed in the pigeon-holes and are adapted to be adjusted vertically therein. One of the plates is indicated at ll and is provided with an elongated opening 42 at its rear end. At its front end each plate is provided with a projecting day indicating tab 48 on which a day of the month is indicated, the one shown being the thirty-first day plate. Near its end, the tab 43 is scored to provide a flexible terminal 44, adapted to facilitate grasping of any of a plurality of superposed tabs.

Each pigeon-hole is provided with a vertically disposed retaining rod 45 disposed near to the back of the cabinet or case. Hetaining recesses or notches 46 are provided in the back wall of the cabinet, in each pigeon-hole, so that the rear end 4L7 of any one of said plates can be moved rearwardly therein, after being elevated, so as to hold itself, and if desired, some additional plates in an elevated position above the remaining plates, as clearly shown in Fig. 7. The elongated openings 42 provide for sufiicient adjustment of the plates so as to permit of shifting them into and out of said recesses. In the position shown in Fig. 7, it will be seen how easily the user can either inspect or withdraw sheets of notations from between the spaced plates.

In the index-book, as shown, the name of the customer or client and also the date of the appointment to be kept or work to be performed, will be entered. The date will be a future date from the actual date on which theent-ry is made in accordance with the primary function of the device which is essentially a docket reminder.

Suppose the matter relates to a job of work to be completed at some future time, then the order will be made out with the work to be performed and the date on which ,it is to be completed, and this order will be placed between two plates and next to the one bearing the date of the month on which the work has been promised, or on such date, prior to the promised date as will enable the work to be started and finished at the time specified. Of course, such order will be put in the proper month pigeon-hole. Thus it will be seen that an authorized person, by looking in the pigeon-hole, and at the matter next to the day plate of the date at hand, each morning, can determine just what must be done in order to keep orders up to specified promised dates. The keyindex book will at all times enable the oflice force to locate orders, not only to determine when they must be filled, but for examination for any other purpose, and it will thus be seen that the device of my invention serves the dual function of a filing and a reminder cabinet. 7

While I have suggested a. few of the utilities of my invention its adaptability for other uses will be apparent, and it will also be seen that my invention is easily adapted to any business requiring a reminder cabinet without any substantial or material altera tion, and while I have shown and described specific forms of my invention, I do not wish to be limited thereto except for such limit-ations as the claims may impart.

I claim:

1. In a calendar cabinet, a case having a pigeon-hole for each calendar month of the 2LI and means designating each pigeon-hole by its month, and a plurality of division day plates in each pigeon-hole and adapted to contain paperstherebetween, said day plates and case having coacting portions whereby one or more plates of a pigeon-hole may be held in spaced relation with respect to the remainder of the plates of such hole, substantially as described.
