, Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 10, 1914.
Application and May 13,1907. Serial 1%. 373,437.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, Vxcros Pmnonon, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Lyon, in France, have invented a certain new and useful Photographic Film, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises a photographic film, which, by its construction, allows the v ordinary construction.
usual bulky paper protecting-band used in roll-films to be dispensed with, and inwhich there is much lessvhalation than in films of The film, according to this invention, comprises four layers-first, a sensitive gelatin emulsion, secondly, a celluloid support, thirdly, an agglutinant coating soluble in cold water, and fourthly, a layer of nonactinic insoluble gelatin permeable to water upon the back of said agglutinant coating.
Figure l of the accompanying drawings shows a part of the film in perspective, a part of the non-actinic layer being separated from the rest of the film; and Fig. 2 is a section of the film.
The celluloid support .72 and the emulsion layer 0 together constitute an ordinary film. The layer a is of soluble gelatin permeable to water, and is impregnated with a nonactinic pigment such as carbon, India ink, or a red dye such as anilin derivatives. Glycerimgum or the like may be added to increase its permeability.
The layer al is of some agglutinant soluble in cold water such as gum arabic, tra acanth gum, sugar, glucose or the like, an servesv to secure the layers a and 0 together until the developing operation, during which the developing solution permeates the layer a, dissolves the layer 0), and thus releases the said layer a.
The complete backed film thus construct ed can be used in rolls, or it may be used as v cut films or film-packs without the necessity of using intermediate opaque papers. Moreover halation is more completely prevented than in ordinary ifilms, as the nonactinic layer is in optical contact (through the layer d) with the celluloid support,.
Whereas in the case of the ordinary film there was always an air-space between the celluloid support and the black paper.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A photographici filin consisting of a pellicular celluloid support having a sensitized coating on its face and an agglutinant coating soluble in cold water upon its back, and a pellicular layer of non-actinic insoluble gelatin permeable to water upon the back of said agglutinant coating.
A photographic film consisting of a pellicular celluloid support having a sensitized coating on its face and a layer of gum soluble in cold water upon its back, and a pellicular layer of non-actinic insoluble gelatin permeable to water upon the back of said layer of gum.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
VICTOR PLANCHON.
