THGMAS 'BTUGKHAMZ, both subjects. of the King of Great Britain, residing at Vickers House, Broadway, Westminster, in the county of London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relatingj to the Lock Mechanism. of Breech-Loading Guns, of which the: following is a specification.
This invention relates to. lock mechanism of the kind having a re-priming device; that comprises a primer magazine and. a bolt which is carried by the laterally moving lock frame and is used for introducing a new primer from the magazine into the primer chamber of the vent axial.
According to this invention theprimer magazine is in the form of a hopper carried by the lock frame and the primers therein are under the control of a device which permits theprimers to escape from the hoppers one by one and which is also carried by tlielock.

In the construction illustrated by Figs. 1 13.0.8, wherein the aforesaid device is. moved by a cam on the box slide, the device C is in the form of a lever pivoted at c to the. lock frame. D carrying the hopper. A, the upper I. the; said lever is adaptedzto cooperate with a cam slot. or; groove E in the box slide during the opening movements of the lock frame, to permit. one. of. the primersv to escape from the hopper A. and come to rest upon the bolt sleeve.
During the closing movement of the lock frame the cam slot or groove E causes the upper end of the said lever to engage with the under side of the primer that is situated immediately above the one resting on the bolt sleeve (Fig. 1). When the bolt sleeve is retracted by the cooking handle 0 (Fig. 7 described in the above mentioned prior specification, the primer that is resting on the bolt sleeve falls into position in front of the bolt head (Fig. 2) and is inserted into the vent axial when the bolt is moved forward by the cock ing handle, the aforesaid lever preventing the primer that is now the lowermost one in the hopper from escaping. The hopper may be provided with a contrivance for indicating when it is empty, this contrivance comprising as shown, a hinged plate -or leaf A which until the magazine is empty, lies hidden within a suitable cavity or recess A (Figs. 1 and 2) but is under the control of a light spring and has a toepiece a arranged in the path of the primers in the hopper so that when the last of the primers escapes from the hopper, the spring moves the plate or leaf into a visible position (Fig. 3) to indicate that the hopper should be re-charged.
In the construction illustrated by Figs. 4: to 6 in which the aforesaid device C is adapted to be moved by the mechanism employed for cooking thefiring' pin or striker, the said device may be in the form of an esoapement lever pivoted at '0 to' the look frame and connected to theaforesa'id cocking handle C by a lever 0 carried by the lock frame D, this lever C enga 'ng with a cam slot' C formed in an arm by the handle 0 this armalso has another slot C for operating the bolt; The escapement lever is normally 6. prior to them:-
