ALBUM FOR- BOTTLE-CAPS.
Speeicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented N ov. 3, 1914.
Application led March 28, 1914. Serial No. 827,863.
T all whom it may concern f Be it known that I, CLINTON G. OWEN, a
- citizen of the United States, residing at Honolulu, in the county of Honolulu and Territory of Hawaii, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Albums for Bottle-Caps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact.
description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates tol albums for holding bottle caps which have a series of pictures or designs thereon.
The caps which are employed instead of corks to close the tops of bottled goods, such as mineral waters, grape juice, beer, etc., are oftin or other metal and have a crimped edge adapted to grip the end of the bottle, a washer of cork or other material sealing the joint between the metal cap and the top of the bottle. The outside of these caps are often times printed, for example, with the name of the goods contained in the bottle, or its manufacturer, a trade-mark, or the like. 'The present invention contemplates these caps having a series of pictures or vdesigns thereon, for example, national flags, portraits of celebrities, coats of arms, shes, iowers, animals, etc. These pictures or designs may either be printed or embossed on the caps in any suitable manner. Each case of bottled goods may thus have its bottles provided with caps each of which has a dii'- ferent picture or design thereon, so that by retaining these caps after opening the bottles one may in time accumulate a` complete set of the different caps published.
The invention further contemplates an album in which such bottle caps may be placed and conserved. The leaves of the album, which may be of card-board, areperforated with a plurality of holes each just large enough to admit of one of these caps being forced into the same, the crimped edge of the caps preventing them from being forced through theleaf of the album.- A sticker of gummed paper or other material is then pasted over the bottom of the cap to prevent its accidental withdrawal from the leaf of the album. Each page or leaf of the album may be labeled'with the title of a series of the pictures or designs, and each hole in the page or leaf may be labeled with, theJ title of one 'of the pictures or designs `of this series, so that there may thusbe provlded a place for each different bottle cap. As the cases of bottled goods usually hold two dozen bottles, the pages or leaves of the album may yeach preferably be provided lwith holes to receive one or two dozen caps.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a plan view of one of the pages or leaves of an album embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 represents a sectional view through a portion of a page or leaf of the album and shows a cap in place.
Referring to the drawings, the page or leaf 3 of the album is of any suitable material such as card-board and is provided with a plurality of holes 4 each adapted to admit of a cap 5 being forced-into the same. The crimped edge 5 prevents the cap 5 from passing through the hole 4. The sticker 6, of gummed paper, cloth, or the like, is pasted to the back of the pagev or leaf 3 covering the bottom and crimped edge 5a of the cap 5, and prevents the withdrawal of the cap from the hole 4.
I am aware that it is old, for the purpose of transmitting coins by mail, to provide holes in card-board to lreceive the various sizes of coins, paper or stickers being pasted on both sides of the card-board to retain the coins in said holes.
I claim:
1. An album for holding bottle caps, having leaves of card-board or the like, each leaf having a plurality of holes large enough to admit of a bottle cap being forced into but not through the same, andy means for preventing the accidental withdrawal of the caps when inserted in said holes.
2. An album for holding bottle caps, having leaves provided with holes to receive the caps, and stickers adapted to be attached to the leaves and more or less cover the bottom of the caps to prevent the withdrawal of the caps inserted in said holes, substantially as described.
3. An album for holding bottle caps, having leaves provided with holes adapted to receive such caps each having thereon one of n sei-ies of pictures or designs, each leef In testimony whereof affix my signalubeled with the title of a series of sind plcture, 1n presence of two witnesses.
