PNEUMATIC-HALMMER MUFFLER.
Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Nova 3, 1914.
Application filed December 23, 1913. Serial No. 808,445.
T (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it hnovvnwhat I, EDWARD MANES, a citiresiding at Golden, in the county of Adams and State'of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful I1nprovcnients in Pneumatic-Ha1n1ner Mufi'lers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to pneumatic hammers, and more particularly to a muffler therefo T he invention has for its object to so construct a pneumatic hammer that the exhaust of air, during the operation thereof is mutfied, to eliminate the objectionable sound characteristic in devices of this character.- v
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is in the nature of an attachment \vhich can be applied to hammers of conventional form.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides construction formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more full; described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a ha1nnicr equipped with the device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View therethrough, Fig. is a transverse sectional View.
Referring to the drawing thenumeral 1 dcignates the hammer having the usual 'Jg; l in which operates the usual haminer 2 adapted for reciprocation therein upon entrance oi air Which exhausts in the usual manner through the ports 3 and 4:.
The mufiier comprises a sleeve 5 having anannula'r internal bead 6 which engages the annular shoulder 7 formed upon the hammer casing, so as to prevent displacement of the sleeve 5. A second sleeve 8 is provided, and has one end adapted to telescopically receive the unheaded end of the sleeve 5 said. second sleeve terminating at one cud in an annular inclined flange 9.
in the novel features of iner comprising the usual hammer the rubber tubing which is connected in any suitable manner to the source oi alr pply- By providing the head 6 it will be noted that the sleeves 5 and S Wlll be held spaced from the hammer casing, thus locking the exhaust pipe which passes through the ports 3 and i and finally through the port 16 and passing into the leather casing 9, which is packed with suitable fabric or Waste 17, thereby inuflling the air asiit exhausts.
What is claimed is 1. In combination with a pneumatic n arecasing, a mufiier comprising a sleeve adapted to inclose the casing, a casing of flexible material inclosing the sleeve, said casing being filled with fabric, and having perforations formed therein to permit the air to exhaust therethrough after phssing through the fabric, and means passable through the last named casing to furnish air to h unrner casing. 2. The combination with a pneumatic hammer comprising a casing, of anniuiller including a sleeve inclosing the casing, a casing inclosing the sleeve, rubric in said casing and means passing through the last named casing to furnish air to the hammer casing. t
In testimony whereof, lgah'in my signature, in the presence of two Witnesses.
Emma Henson, OSCAR Ronsnsn.
