This invention relates, generally, to im{ provenients' in eye glass mountings; and, the
present invention has reference, more particularly, to a novel form-and construction of mounting for usewith the lenses of eyeglasses and spectacles, with a yiew of providinga mounting of the general character hereinafter more especially set forth, [and which is readily secured to and removed from the lens without'the employmentqof the usual fastening screw, the stud of the mounting being made in the form of a snapcatch 'which is readily sprung into placewith the lens and is of such construction, that the parts are positively secured with'relation to each other, but may be easily and quickly disconnected for separating the lens from the mounting. i

That portion of the screw-post 3 above said collar 4 is provided in its end with a groove or slit, as 6, for the reception of a screw-driver, and the opposite endportion of said post 3 is screw-threaded, as at 7. This screw-threaded end-portion of the post 3 extends beyond the surface 8 of the lens 1, and is screwed into a screwthreaded hole 10 of a flat pivot-plate 9, said plate being thereby brought to bear positively upon the surface S of the lens, and the screw-post 3 on account of its collar 4 bearing directly upon the surface 5 of the lens, being positively and permanently secured in its operative relation tothe lens. The said flat plate 9 has that portion located near the marginal edge-portion of the lens, made preferably angular, as at 11, and as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 6, so as to extend slightly away from the surface-8 of the lens. The said angular portion. 11 is also pro- ,vided with a suitably formed and suitably disposed hook-receiving perforation or hole 12, for the purpose to be presently more fully described.
The reference-character 13, in Figs. 1 to 7 inclusive, indicates a stud with which are integrally connected the arc-shaped strapmembers or elements 14 which are adapted to be'fitted upon and engage the adjacent edge of the lens. The stud is also further provided with the flanges 15 between which are arranged in the usual manner, the endportions .of the nose-bridge 16 and the noseguards 17, the said end-portions being suitably secured in position by means of a screw 18, -or any other suitable fastening. means. Extending from the lower edge-portion of the inner flat surface 19 of the stud 13, is a suitably formed hook or lug, as 20, adapt-- ed ,tobe inserted in the perforation or hole 12, hereinabove mentioned, and in alinement with said'hook' or lug 20 and extending from the upper edge-portion of said flat surface 19 is a forwardly extending holding plate-like member or element, as 21, adapted to be arranged upon the flat surface 5 of the lens, and having its front endportion preferably made much thinner than the remaining portion of said plate-like member or element 21, said thin end-portion being pronged or bifurcated, as at 22,

Suitably secured upon the upper surface of said plate-like member or element 21, by means of "a pin, rivet, or screw, as23, or by means ofany other suitable fastening means, is a holding catch 24, made in the form of a resilient spring-plate or finger, the free endportion of which, when the hook or "lug 20 has been'inserted in the ;hole-l2 and is' pivotally moved inthe direction of the arrow 3 see Fig. 3, passes over the free end-portion of the screw-post .3, whereby a hole or perforation 25 in said resilient spring-plate or catch 24 is brought directly over the end of the said screw-post, so that the said post enters the'hole or perforation 25; and, with the said spring-plate or catch 24 snapping into holding engagement with the screwpost 3, it will be clearly evident that the stud 13 and lens 1 will be securely connected with relation to each other, but may be justas readily separated when the spring-plate or catch 24 is raised into the dotted position indicated in said Fig. 2, and whereby the stud can be swung into the position shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, and readily sep-' arated from its holding engagement with the fiat plate 9, so that the lens andstud will be brought into their separated rela tion, as will be clearly understood from an inspection of said Fig. 3. To prevent the hook or lug 20 from entering too far into the hole or perforation 12, and thereby perhaps interfering with the pivotal movements of the parts, the hook-element or lug 20 is preferably made'with a pair of offsets or shoulders, as 26, which cooperate with the part 11 of the flat plate 9, as will I be clearly evident.
The operation of the device or mechanism in bringing the stud and lens into their snapped engaged relation, andthe manner of separating the stud and lens-will be fully understood flOlIltlle foregoing description, and from an inspection of the several figures of the drawings, and need not, for that reason, be-further .described.

In eye glasses, in combination with a lens, 'a pivot-plate located upon oneside of the lens, said pivot-plate being provided with a hook-receiving perforation, a screwpost extending throughthe lens for secur ing said plate in a fixed position relative to the lens, a collarupon'said screw-post, said collar bearing upon the opposite side of the lens, a stud, a hook extending from said stud, said hook being pivotally inserted in th perforation of said pivot-plate, and means connected with said stud adapted to be brought-into holding engagement with said screw-post and its collar.

In eye-glasses, in;combination with a lens, a pivot-plate located upon one side of the lens, said pivot-plate being provided with a hook-receiving perforation, a screw post extending through the lens for securing said plate in a fixed position relative to thelens, a collar upon said screw-post, said collar bearing upon the opposite side of the lens, a stud, a hook extending from said stud, said hook being pivotally'inserted in the-perforation of said pivot-plate, and a resilientspring-catch connected with said stud and having a portion adapted to be sprung into holding engagement with said screw post, and its collar. 13; In eye-glasses, in combination with a lens, a pivot-plate located upon one side of the lens, said pivot-plate being provided;
with ahoolereceiving perforation, a screwpost extendingthrough the lens for securing said plate in a fixedposition relative to the lens, a stud, a hookextending from said stud, said hook beingpivotallyinserted in the perforation in said pivot-plate, a holding plate connected with said stud, said platebeing adapted to'be arranged upon the other side of the lens and having a bi: furcated end adapted to embrace said screwpost, and means connected with said plate adapted to be brought into holding engagement with the said screw-post.

In eye-glasses, in combinationwith a lens, a pivot-plate located upon one side of the lens, said pivot-plate being provided with hook-receiving perforation, a screwpost extending through the lens for securing said plate in a fixed position relative to the lens, a stud, a'hook extending from said stud, said hook being pivotally inserted in the perforation in said pivot-plate,'a holding. plate connected with said stud, said plate being adapted to be arranged upon the other side of the lens and having a bifurcated endadapted to embrace said screwpost, and a resilient springcatch connected with said plate and having a perforated portion adapted to be sprung into holding engagement with a portion of said screwpost.

In eye-glasses, in combination with a means adapted to be engaged: by said detachably connectingssaid lens, a pivot-plate located upon one side of I the lens, said pivot-plate being provided with a hook-rece1v1ng perforatlon, a screwpost extendlng through the lens for securing said plate in" a fixed position relative to the lens, a collar upon said screw-post, said collar bearing upon the opposite side of the lens, a stud, a hook extending from said stud, said hook being pivotally inserted in the perforation in said pivot-plate, a'holding plate connected with said stud, said plate being also adapted .to be arranged upon said opposite side of the lens and having a bifurcated end adapted to embrace the collar of said screw-post, and a resilient spring-catch connected with said plate and having a perforated portion adapted to be sprung into holding engagement with said screw-post and'its colla 17.
