To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OsoAa M. Liiicia, a citizen of the United States,residing at Genoa, in the countyfof Dekalb and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new-and useful Improvement in Circuit-Controlling Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exactf description', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to circuit controlling n devices and provides means for the purpose of'transinitting a rprolonged impulse over a circuit;
. More particularly my invention is applied to desk or portable telephone stands, the switching means being yunderthe control of the switchhook to transmit a prolonged impulse preferably whenever the hook is moved either up or down.
The general nature of the switcliiiigide-k vices is such that after the hook has come to rest they impulse ceases, the devices being of such a `character to prolong this impulse'l beyond thetime that would ordinarily be given to it with its lengthr dependent solely upon the time required to `move the switchhook lever from one other. i n I will describe one form which my invention may take by referring to the accompanying drawings, in whichp Figure 1 is a sectional View of a desk telephone constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig.f2 is a detail of construction; Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the stand, and Figs. 4 and 5 are Lalternate views of the switching devices. y Y

The plunger 2 has a portion 21 of restricted diameter adapted to engage the forked arm of a lever 22, which lever is pivotally mounted to a depending arm 23 of the plate 12 through the agency of the shaft 24. As the plunger 2 moves up and down the lever 22 is oscillated as is readily apparent.A This lever 25 which carries a trigger 26, shown' more in detail in Fig; 2. This trigger has apertures 27 so that by means of a shaft 28 it is mounted upon the arm 25 as stated. This trigger 26 is preferably made of one piece and consists of `a substantially U-shaped framework 29 having an arm 30 bent away therefrom and then parallel thereto, and then having a further arm 31 similarly bent. The arms 30 and 31 are respectively provided with apertures 32, 32 to which coiled springs 33 are attached, and the opposite extremities of these Vcoiled springs are mounted upon arms 23, 23 which extend downwardly from the plate 12 and which also carry the lever 22.
The trigger has a piece of insulation 34 preferably cylindrical extending from the arm 31 and this is held in place by means of a screw 35 extending preferably through both legs of the U-shaped portion 29. This insulating element 34 is designedto engage the springs 10 or 11 as the case may be to press the same into engagement with the springs 3 or 9. The lever 22 has a bent portion 36 against which the trigger rests in vone of its limiting positions. In the other limiting position the inclined surface 37 of the trigger rests against the surface 38 (Fig. 5) of the lever 22.
It will be seen more clearly from Fig. 5, which shows the elements in a more or less intermediate position that the spring 33 is only in line with the pivotal mounting of the trigger 26 during suoli intermediate position and that these springs 33 will reverse the position of the element 26 the minute this element has slightly passed the neutral point. The springs serve the purpose of placing the roller34 in an intermediate position such as shown in Fig. 4 after an actuation of the springs. As the lever is in its uppermost position the elements all have the position shown in Fig. 4. Should the lever be moved downwardly, then the plunger 2 of Fig. 5 would travel just a trifle lower than the position shown in Fig. 5, and will force the parts into vthe position shown in Fig. 1, with the surfaces 37 and 3S in engagement. In this position it will be seen that the springs have again restored. the trigger y to such a position that the roller 34 holds the springs 10 and 11 in an intermediate position, not contacting with either the spring 8 or the spring` 9. This it is thoughtwill illustrate the manner of operation. The
22 has a downwardly extending arm trigger 26 by reason of the spring action prolongs the contact between either of the springs 10 and l1 and that particular spring 8 or 9 with which said springs 10 and 11 may be inv engagement.
From what has been described it is thought theinvention will be clear as'will also the fact that many modifications may be made thereof without departing from its spirit, as the specific device illustrated herein is for illustrative purposes merely, and
What I therefore claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1.4In a vdeviceof the character` described the combination with a pair of springs electrically connected together, and having bent diverging ends, additional 'springs one adaptedfor association with each of the springs aforesaid, an element adapted for in" terposition between the diverging ends of the aforesaid springs adapted to move one or the other of said springs, a lever for moving said elements, and resilient means interposed bey tween said leverand said elements.
2. In a device of the character described the combination with a pair of springs electrioally connected together, and having bent diverging ends, additional springs one adapted for association with each of the springs aforesaid, an element adapted for interposition between the diverging ends of the aforesaid springs adapted to move one or the other of said springs, a lever for` moving said element, and a spring interposed between said lever and said element.
3. In a device of the character described the combination with a pair of springs electrically connected together, and having bent diverging ends, adapted for association with each of Vthe springs aforesaid, a trigger adapted for interposition between the diverging ends of the aforesaid springs adapted to move one or the other of said springs, a lever for moving said trigger, and tween said lever and said trigger.
4. In a device of the character described the combination with a pair of springs eleca spring interposed betrically connected together, and having bent v diverging ends, additional springsv one adapted for association with each of the springs aforesaid, ay trigger adapted for interposition between the-diverging ends of the aforesaid springs adapted tomove one or theother of said springs, a lever for movingsaid trigger, and a spring interposed between said'lever and said trigger, said trigger having means forming angularly disposed surfaces adapted to engage the lever to define the limits of themovement of said trigger.
5. In a device of the character described the combination with a'switch spring, a second switch spring adapted for periodic engagement therewith, and means 4for controlling the periodic engagement of said springs, said means including a lever, a trigger thereon, and yielding means interposed between said trigger and lever.
6. In a device of the character described the combination with a switch spring,a second switch spring adapted for periodic vengagement therewith, and means for controlling the periodic engagement of said springs, said means including a lever, a trigger thereon, and yielding means interposed between Copies of this patent may be obtained for said triggerand lever tov actuate said trigger when at its critical position to thereby cause engagement of said springs during movementy only of said controlling means. i
