T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMSON D. WRIGH a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain nev. and useful Improvements in Dump-Cars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to dump car and is provided-with a wear strip engagingthe shoulder formed by the offset thereby producing a tight fit to prevent the loss of the fine particles of coke termed breeze.
The invention may be further briefly summarized as consisting in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth in the following description, drawings and claim.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is an end elevation of a dump car provided with my invention showing parts in section; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the mechanism about the door showing the door closed; Fig. 3 is a similar view with a portion of the door broken away to show they shoulder formed by the offset; and Fig. 4 is a detail view of a portion-of the door mechanism showing a modified form of shoulder and wear strip.
In carrying out the invention any preferred form and construction of car maybe provided with my invention provided it possesses the necessary characteristics, but I have shown one form and construction in the drawings which is very effective in opered to fit snugly into the angle of the oli'set,
thereby forming a tight jointbetween the door and the floor oi thecar. By the a'r.- rangement of the joint with the ofi'set the loss of breeze or small particles of coke is prevented and by the use of the wear strip this joint may be kept tight from time to time as the particles of-coke cut into the inner corner of the door;
The doors are held shut by suitable latches 10 pivoted upon a shaft 11 extending along the underside of the floor, and this shaft is adapted to be rocked in any suitable manner as by an arm 12 extending beyond the outer edge of the floor. Suitable weighted arms 13 are provided upon this shaft to throw the latches normally into engagement with the door.
In the modification shown in Fig. 1 the doors 14 are swung on arms 15 pivoted upon pins 16 mounted in the car, and these doors are swung upon these pins so as to close the opening in a chute member 17 forming part of the car body. The floor of the car is pro vided with a similar offset and the door is provided with a flat wear strip 18 which fits into the angular corner formed by the offset. 2 Having described my inventionfl claim In a dump car, in'combination, suitable trucks, a frame, a car body having a discharge opening on one side, an inclined floor for such body having a ledge along the edge of the floor at-the discharge opening and lower than the same, thereby forming 'a shoulder, a door for closing said discharge
