ANNA STENSLAND, 0E BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BU$T UPPORTER AND REDUCER.
V Specification of Letters Patent. Application sled ril 3, mm. Serial at. 829,161.
Patented Oct. 2'7, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNA STENSLAND, a citizen of the UnitedStates, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bust Supporters andReducers, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to what are lmownas bust supporters and reducers, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be conveniently applied and worn, and which is simple in construction, eflicient in operation, and comparatively inexpensive.
My improved bust su porter and reducer is used in connection with an ordinary corset, and the invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the ac companying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable, reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a front view of a form shown only in outline and provided with a corset, and showing the method of using my improvement;-Fig. 2 a partial section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 ;-Fig. 3 a sectional view of one side of the corset and showing the means employed for securing the ends of the bust supporter and reducer under the arms, or at the opposite sides of the corset;--Fig. a a back view of my improvement detached, and ;-Fig. 5 a face viewiofa securin tab one of which is secured to each side 0 the corset.
in the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown at a an ordinary cor-. set on a form which is shown 'only 1n outline,
and at b I have shown my improved bust supporter and reducer, a back view of which is iven in Fig. 4.
he genera form of my improvement is clearly shown in Fi s. 1 and 4, and it comprises a central bo y portion of predetermined width both the top and bottom edges of which are tapered toward the ends I), which are comparatively narrow and rovided with studs 0 which are secured t ereto in the usual or any preferred way, and secured to the opposite sides of the corset, and preferably in positions directly under the arms,
device is preierably depressed centrally as shown at b, to give the desired shape thereto and the bottom ed e is preferably correspondingly projecte as shown at b, and said device is provided with a plurality of vertically arranged, or approximately vertically arranged stays f, any desired num ber of which may be employed, and secured approximately centrally of the opposite side portions of the device are hooks g which are adapted to engage the top edges of the corset a, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
The position of the top edge of the corset, when in use, is indicated by the dotted lines a in Fig. 1, and clearly shown at a in Fig. 2, and the vertical width of my improved bust supporter and reducer and the position of the hooks g are preferably such that the supporter and reducer extends a predetermined distance above and a predetermined distance below the top edge of the corset, and as the bust supporter and reducer may be made of any desired width, the distance that it extends above and below the top edge of the corset, when in use, will, as will be understood, be determined by the dimensions thereof.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that my improved bust supporter and reducer extends only part way around the body, the ends thereof being secured beneath the arms, and said device may be quickly and easily placed in position, and as quickly and easily removed whenever desired, and changes in and modifications of theconstruction described may be made, within the scope of the a pended claim, without departing from t e spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Havin fully described my invention, what I c aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A bust supporter and reducer, adapted to be worn in connection with a corset and the side portions of which are provided contrally of the inner sides thereof with hooks presence of the subscribing witnesses this for engaging the top edge of the corset and 2nd day of April, 1914.
arranged so that the supporter and reducer will extend above and below said top edge of ANNA STENSLAND' 5 the corset when in use. Witnesses:
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as C. MULREANY,
my invention 1 have signed my name in S. ANDREWS.
