BOAT-SEAT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedOct. 13, 1914.
App1ication filed April 30, 1913. Serial No. 764,597.
To all whom it may concern ,7
Be it known that I, ALBERT Vl CROUOH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of l/Visconsin, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Boat-Seats, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to boats and has for its object the provision of an improved seat construction by virtue of which the seating arrangement of the boat is rendered more convenient.
My inventionmay be applied to a small motor driven boat, for instance, whose system of control is similar to that of automobiles.
My invention contemplates the provision of a combined seat structure extending across the width of the boat, which structure has two individual seats with a passageway between so arranged that access from the front to the rear of the boat may readily be had without stepping over the seat, thus dirtying the seat. Between the seats the structure contemplates a foot path together with a step so that the occupants of the boat may readily pass on the center line of the boat from the front to the'rear. It is of course a source of great danger to have occupants of the boat pass from one extremity to the other if such passage is not made along the center line of the boat. Likewise it is very inconvenient to step over a seat on a boat, especially a seat provided with a back because the tendency to tip the boat is very great. My invention provides means to overcome these difficulties in boat construction by providing means to permit of the ready passage from one end of the boat to the other without endangering the stability of the craft.
I will explain my invention more in detail by referring to the accompanying drawing illustrating one embodiment thereof in which Figure 1 is a side View partly in section of my improved seat construction, the sectional view of the seat construction being taken along line aa of Fig. 2, and Fig. 2 is a top View of my improved seat construction as applied to a boat.
Referring to the figures, I provide within the hull l of the boat a suitable box structure having the side walls 2, 3, built upon the bottom of the boat, which box structure has superposed upon it at its extremities, at the side of the boat, two seats respectively 4 and 5 having backs 6, 6. Between the seats along the center line of the boat the, box structure has a cover 7 provided with a suitable matting or similar material 8 which cover may be hinged as shown at 9to aiford access to the box structure. "This cover 7 forms a foot path so that passengers may readily go from the front compartment 10 to the rear compartmen't 11 without endangering the stability of the boat. A step 12- is likewise provided which makes the foot path more accessible from the rear. meansof this improved seat construction suitable seating capacity is provided and at the same time suitable means are provided to make these seats accessible from any portion of the boat. An additional seat 13 may be provided as desired. An operating wheel 14 is provided to control the operations of the engine of the boat, and suitable hatches 15 are also provided to permit access to the engine.
From what has been described it is thought the nature of my invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art and that modifications within the scope of the appended claims are contemplated.
Having however thus set forthone form which my invention may take, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a boat the combination with. a boxlike structure arranged transversely of the boat, a seat at each extremity of said struc ture along each side of said boat, and a foot path over said box-like structure between said seats, and elevated above the floor level of the boat.
2. In a boat the combination with a boxlike structure arranged transversely of the boat, a seat at each extremity of said structure along each side of said boat, a foot path over said box-like structure between said seats, and a step attached to said box-like StIUIf'GIlIB to give accessibility to said foot pat y 3. In a boat the combination with a boxlike structure arranged transverselyof the boat, a seat at each extremity of said struc- It will thus be seen that by ture along each side of said boat, and a foot path over said box-like structure between said seats, said foot path including a cover plate hinged to said box like structure.
4. In a boat the combination with a boxlike structure arranged transversely of the boat, a seat at each extremity of said structure along each side of said boat, a foot path over said box like structu e between said seats, and a step attached to said box-like structure to give accessibility to said foot path, said foot path including a cover platehinged to said box like structure.
5. In a boat the combination with a boxlike structure arranged transversely of the boat, a seat at each extremity of said structure along each side of said boat, a back for each seat, and a foot path over said box-like structure between said seats, said foot path including a cover plate hinged to said boxlike structure.
6. In a boat the combination with a boxlike structure arranged transversely of the boat, a seat at each extremity of said structure along each side of said boat, a back for each seat, a foot path over said box-like structure between said seats, and a step attached to said box-like structure to give accessibility to said foot path, said foot path including a cover plate hinged to said box like structure.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 18th day of March, A. D., 1913.
