ELECTRIC SWITCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
,lllatoin t ed Hot. 6, Jill l l Application filed l ipi'il Ell. 1911. Serial No. 632,526.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that L Fnunniuo than, a. citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lfileetrio Swim-hes, of which the following is a SIWL'i' fieation.
My invention relates particularly to a chain guide construction for pull socket switches.
It has been customary in the past to provide a guide *or the operating chain or cord and to taste the guide to the shell in some cases and in other cases to the porl-elain. lloth of these (amslrnrlions have disadvantages in manufacture, assel'nhling and re pair.
it is my object to avoid these dilih-ultie.-; and to provide a simple, inexpensive ronstruetion which (an be readilv assembled or taken apart.
Figure 1, is a front view of a soelcet embodying the oonstrmition of my invention. Fig. 2, a side view, the shell be ing shown in section. Fig". 3. is a plan vii-iv. the cap of the shell being removed. Fig. l. is a perspective view 0.5 the body of the shell showing the slot for revolving the rhain guide. Fig. 5. is a perspective view of the chain guide. Fig. 6, a horizm'ital sertion of another "form of switch with the chain guide of my invention.
The soeltot shell oonsisls of the holly l and the (rap part 2 Whirh telescope with one another and ma he provided with any suitable form of llllellOljlilllg devices.
in the form of constrin-tion shown in l' igs. 2 and 3 the switch parts are carried by the two porcelain members 3 and t and surrounded by insulating fiber The chain guide 6 has a central passage 7, an inner flange 8 and an outeo llangre fl leaving an annular groove 10 between the. f'h ages; The operating" chain or word ll. on tends through the passage 7. The holly J of .he sl'aeltet shell has a slot 12 in its upper edge to receive the chain guide, the llangg'e 8 titling: on the inside ot the shell and the flange 9 on the outside. When the rap 2 is on the body 1 the chain guide is held in,
place.
To prevent the main parts of the swdoh from turning in the shell I provide a ha: 13 which is integral with the upper Pfillftl: lain & and projects into the upper end ol the slot 12 in the body 1 ol the shell. 'lhis lap; is just long" enough to projel-t through the insulating libor 5 and the thickness of the bod; of the shell. When the an) 2 is in. plate its lower edge covers the 111;: 13). This lug also helps to steady the Llllllll guidiby reinl'orring the shell at this point. A groove lal may he provided in the lower edge of the lug 13 to all'ord additional means for positioning the (-hain guide.
in the l orm ot' ronstruvtion shown in Fig. (3 the switch spindle is held in position by the body 521 of the shell so that relative disphu'emvnt is prevented. Obviously the vhain guide may he extended lrom the shell to any extent desired as shown for inslanvr, in l' 'i g'. 13 where the hell portion projor't-a from the main part of the guide 523i. This hoops the ohain if-lfarther away l'rom the shell.
it will he obvious that the chain guide roustruetion may be applied lo any l 'oruvol pull sol-hot switl'h as it is \\'ll()ll 'y' independent of the switrh or (he porrelain or other parts inside the shell.
What i (laim is 1. i l pull smltll, roinprisin n a shell body having a slot in its upper end. a double Hanged eyelet drlavhably (ill'lltll by said shell in said slot forming a (-haln guide and having}; its llanges overlapping the edges of the hod suxrroundingr the slot and a shell (up on the body holding: iho eyelet in place.
:2. A pull sorlv'vt romprising, a porl'elain varrvilng' the swiirh parts and having: a latrral projla'tion. a shell int-losing said parts and rousisting ol. :1 body and a rap, said hodv having, a slot revolving said projerlion, a rhain guide dolar'hahly fitted in said slot and having a flange on its inner end beneath said projer-tion said eap covering said proieetion.
3. in a pull sor-ltel', a metallic shellhody having a slot, alrhaiu guide having a groove renmvahlv lilting the edges ol the metal around the slot and a shell-(tap lilting: the edge of the hody and holding: the ohain guide in place.
l. in a pull sorltoli. a metallicshelbbody having a slot, a chain guide having a groove rlanovahlv lilting the edges ol' the metal around the slot. a shellrap tilting the edge oi tho body and holding the chain guide in plat-0 and a porcelain inside the shell having a I'Jrojtartioll for preventing relative displacean; at.
5. In electric li lit pull sockets the com" bination of a sllel provided with a slot, 11 ronun'ablo chain guide l :1 'ing means i0 00- ,opci'ale with the, Walls of". the slot, 1:. cap is prevent the movement of she chain guids: in one direction, and means for securing tin: cap and shell together.
(3. In an electric pull socket, in shell consisting of a body having an open slot ai one end 21ml :1 cap fitting mor said end and :1 removable chain guide fitted in said slot and having flanges embracing the inner and outer walls of said body and cap.
