To oli whom it may concern Be it lmown that l, Guantes V. STUART, a citizen of the United States, residing, at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and .State Tennessee, have invented new and use ful improvements in lnrners, of which the following is a speeiication.
The invention relates te an fimprmed burner designed primarily for use with solid fuel, the construction providing for the ini.- tial. use of a liquid fuel to produce an inresence in the combustion chamber, uf. erein the solid fuel may be completely burned with the maximum heating effect niinimuifn resultant products of comlar-.stionu I he main obiect of the present invention .is the provision of a burner involving a conibusticn chamber to Which a liquid fuel is introduced under pressure and burned to produce a state of incandescencc vin said chamber, a solid fuel bei-ng introduced into said chamber under pressure and under mechanical control to distribute said fuel within the chamber to provide for the complete' combustion of the fuel.
,The invention in the preferred forni of ldetails Will be described in the followingr specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in `which the igure is a vertical sectional View partly in elevation of the improved burner.
The improved burner, as is clearly illustrated in the accompanyingr drawing, comprises a combustion chamber l, which may be of any desired size or contour in accordance with' the Work contemplated. ln the form illustrated, the chamber comprises a Suitable casing, interiorly lined with lire brick or other refractory material, as 2, one end of the chamber being open as at 3, from which the heated products are taken for use.
The opposing or relatively closed end of the chamber has secured thereto one terminal. of a conduit 4, providing, as hereinafter described, for the delivery of the fuel for combustion to the chamber l. In the conduit 4 immediately adjacent the 50 combustion chamber, is arranged an interruptor 6, in the form of a baflle means. As shown, such interrupter is ln the form of a spiral element compelling, a rotative movement of such material as is vforced by the same toward the combustion chamber. It is of .course to ybe understood that While' preferring such sipral baffle element, l contemplate the use of any desired type of such baffle device as may be found desirable in the particular instance.

Aln the use of the improved burner, the liquid fuel pipe l2 is open to the conduit 4 so that a previously determined quantity of the liquid fuel is delivered to the conduit, and by the suction ot the pressure clement 5 mixed with the indrawn air and forced longitudinally through the conduit, past the baille element 6, wherein a complete rotary intermixing occurs, and into the combustion chamber, Where the mixture is ignited.
