Be it lmown that I, CARL Josnrrr; a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Bayonne, in the county ofHudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in theManufac ture of Bolt-Anchors, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention relates to the manufacture of bolt. anchors, and more particularly to that t. pe disclosed in a patent issued to me on Ju y 8, 1913, No.1, 066,500. The novelty consists in the construction of the blank, and the method of transtormin'g it into a completed article.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a plan view of theblank,'out oi 'Whichthe anchor is formed. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the blank partly formed into the anchor. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the completed anchor. Figs. 4-, 5 and 6 are, respectively, cross sectional views on the lines 4.--4, 55 and 66 of Fig. 3. Fig. 7 is a longitudinal sectional viewvthrough the completed anchor. Fig. 8 is a longitudinal sectional view, showing the screw hook secured by the said anchor. I v
. Similar reference numerals designate-corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the embodiment disclosed, a blank designated generally by the reference numeralv 9, and shown in Fig. 1, is stamped or other-- wise cut from sheet metal, to produce a central body portion 10 having an axial aperture l1 and a plurality of radially and angularly disposed segments 12, the said segments being joined to the body portion by reduced necks 13, and said segments tapering from their outer ends toward the center. These segments have their edges serrated, as illustrated at 14:, and their central portions are scored or indented along their ra- The fiat blank, as'thus produced, is then bent to substantially the shape illustrated in Fig. 2. That is to say, the body 10 is first formed into substantially cup-shape, and the segments 12 are longitudinally creased in wardly, so that the said segments are sub stantially v-shaped in cross section, and the indentations or scores 15 are located at the apex of each, while the serrated edges are outwardly directed. The blank is then furthermore transformed intov the shape illustrated in Fig. 3, which is the completed article. Briefly described, the body 10 is drawn into tubular'or cylindrical form, and the segments ,12 are disposed at one end of the P4881116, with the serrated o edges :substantially in line -with the gwalls of the body 10. As a result, the team portions of. the segments incline in-' wardly, as will be clear by reference to Fig.
7,' -}fi1 oducing'-a' contracted throat in line wit the bore of the body. Whexrthus com pleted',' the-scores or indentations 15 consti tute in effect a sectional screw thread.
In using the device, an opening, as 16, is first formed in the wall or object in which ia bolt is to be anchored, and the-anchor is introduced into this opening. If a screw lto .otherrzobiect, a is th inserte into-the anchor and is screwed thereinto, the threads 18 thereof will engage in the scores or indentations 15, and the inserted object acting as a wedge, will force the segments apart, thus bringing the teeth or serrations 14 into biting engagement With the walls of the opening or socket 16. As a result, the bolt or other article will be securely locked or anchored in the said opening or socket. I
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A blank'out of which to forma boltanchor, comprising a central body and a series of symmetrlcally disposed radiating segments in angular relation to one another.
2. A blank out of which to form a bolt anchor, comprisin a central body and a series of symmetrically disposed radiating segments disposed in angular relation to each other, each tapering from the outer end toward the center.
3. A blank out of which to form a bolt anchor, comprising a central body and a series of symmetrically disposed radiating segments, each tapering from its outer end toward the center along radial lines.
4. A blankout of which to form a bolt anchor, comprising a central body and a series of angularly and symmetrically disposed radiating segments, each tapering from its end toward the center, each segment being serrated along its radial edges.
5. A blank out of which to form a bolt anchor "comprising a central body and a series of angularly and symmetrically disposed radiating segments, each tapering radial axis.
being scored or indented along its; n iiddle 6. A blank for bolt anchors, "comprising a central body having an axialaperture, and radial segments projecting from the edge of the body and having reduced neck portions connected thereto in line'with the'aperture. 7. A blankifor bolt anchors, comprising a central body having an axial aperture, and radial segments projecting from the edge of the body and having reducedneck portions connected thereto in line with the aperture, the edges of the segments being serrated, and. said segments being scored or indented alon their central radial axes, said serrations an indentations terminating short of the said neck ortions. c. 8, he method of producing bolt anchors, which consists'in .forming a blank with'a central body, -a'nd radially disposedsegments and drawing the body to a tubular form with the segments at one "end thereof.
5 9. The method-of producing bolt anchors, whichfconsists informing a blank'with a j bore of thebod". 10. The meth 'chors, which consists in formin central body, and radially dis osed segmer ts, drawmg the, body to a tu ular form "withthe s'e entsat one end thereof, and segments into line with the etting said 0d of producing bolt ana metal blank-with a central apertured 0d and radially disposed segments, longitu inally creaslng said segments inwardly and taperingly, drawing the body to tubular form with the segments at one end thereof, and
-insetting said segments into line with the bore of the body .to form a structure 01 substantially the same diameter throughout and with a contracted throat in line with the said bore of the body.
In testimony whereof I afiii: my'signature in-presence of two witnesses. w,
' CARL JOSEPH.
