The ex- I panding members are provided with a suitable external surface so that when coming into contact with the tube 3 they will form the inner bellied portion 28 and the outer ridge 29 which is at the extremity of the tube. Thusthe boiler head 4 will be securely locked to the tube and the tube will be prevented from moving in either direction by means of the ridge 29 and the bellied portion 28. I v I The circular spring 30embraces the expanding members and is located in an annular groove 31 which extends therearound. The spring provides that the expanding members will be retracted when the tapered pin is withdrawn or retracted from the expanding members. In operation the tool or expander is placed within the tube 3.- with the casings 6 and 17 extended so that the lower extremity of the pin or-shaft taper will be in contact -with the expanding members whereby the same will be retracted to such a diameter that they will readily fit within the tube'or flue.
